Job Description: 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
•    Maintain close relationships with stakeholders to provide them with relevant legal advice, guidance and support. 
•    Provide strategic advice to stakeholders on legal and regulatory issues (and strive to proactively identify such issues), working with external counsel as appropriate. 

Business
•    Provide legal advice, guidance and support to Wealth & Retail Banking and Functions across Malaysia (including Saadiq) on legal matters. 
•    Partner with other members of the Legal function on, and contribute (where appropriate and without duplication or overlap) to management of Legal matters. 
•    Contribute to optimising operating efficiency within the Country Legal function. 
•    Support development of effective dispute risk management strategies and deployment of these strategies in a timely manner across products and channels. 

Processes
•    Act quickly when any risk and control weakness become apparent and ensure they are escalated appropriately. 
•    Continuously improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the processes for management of legal papers (court papers, etc) and disputes.
•    Manage non-major disputes across the Bank in Malaysia (including for Saadiq).
•    Support Disputes and Government Investigations Legal team (DGIL) on management of major disputes in Malaysia.

People & Talent
•    Support an active training and learning environment to facilitate excellence in legal risk management, legal risk awareness, behaviours and accountability. 

Risk Management
•    Identify material legal risks in Malaysia (including affecting Saadiq) and communicate these to the Head, Legal, Malaysia. 
•    Support Head, Legal, Malaysia in her role as Process Owner for any Country processes owned by Legal where such processes are executed by the country team.
•    Support Head, Legal, Malaysia in her role as Process Owner for Contract Enforceability Risks arising in Malaysia (including Saadiq), as set out in the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework. 

Governance
•    Provide an oversight on security documentation process in Malaysia (including Saadiq), ensuring compliance with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct.
•    Where external counsel is appointed, liaise with the external counsels to ensure that the scope of work is defined and appropriate, the quality of work is overseen effectively, legal costs are managed and there is appropriate overall matter management. 
•    Ensure satisfactory closure of legal related issues or gaps arising from internal audits, peer reviews and regulatory reviews.
•    Have an awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

Regulatory & Business Conduct
•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Support the embedding of the highest standards of ethics across all areas of Standard Chartered Bank that they touch on. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
