Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Managing Director to lead the Deposits and Mortgage product portfolios within our Wealth & Retail Banking (WRB) division in Hong Kong. This pivotal role requires a strategic visionary to drive sustainable growth, strengthen profitability, and cement market leadership in alignment with both global and Hong Kong WRB strategies.
You will own end-to-end product management responsibilities encompassing strategy formulation, innovative pricing, governance, and rigorous performance oversight. Working cross-functionally, you will collaborate closely with segmentation, distribution, digital innovation, and risk teams to curate integrated, customer-centric propositions that elevate the client experience and meet evolving market demands.
Strategic Leadership
• Formulate and champion a robust Balance Sheet Strategy for deposits and mortgage products consistent with projected interest rate trajectories and regulatory expectations.
• Drive profit maximisation by optimising product mix, pricing, and customer acquisition/retention strategies without compromising market share.
• Implement agile business plans that can quickly adapt to shifting liquidity conditions and market uncertainties, ensuring sustained financial health.
• Define and deliver digital transformation and automation agendas aligned with current market trends and customer expectations, particularly focusing on customer journeys enhancement and operational efficiency.
• Foster a culture of excellence by ensuring the team organisation is optimally structured to execute the strategic plan effectively and responsively.

• Achieve and exceed total balance and revenue targets in harmony with Hong Kong and Group WRB objectives.
• Strategically navigate interest rate cycles to optimise product portfolios while maintaining compliance with BASEL III standards, managing P&L impacts, and safeguarding balance sheet stability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to establish competitive, profit-driven transfer pricing policies that support product viability and customer appeal.
• Deepen relationships with affluent market segments by delivering differentiated, service-focused experiences that drive loyalty and business growth.
• Leverage data analytics, customer segmentation, and pricing experimentation to refine marketing precision and improve cross-sell/up-sell success rates.
• Foster strong coordination with distribution channels to align front-line activity with business objectives and ensure effective target setting and incentivisation.
• Partner closely with credit risk teams to balance stringent underwriting standards with market competitiveness, ensuring sound risk management without obstructing business opportunities.
• Champion innovations that capitalise on international banking prospects and embed sustainability principles within deposit and mortgage product development.
• Drive end-to-end process improvements by identifying operational bottlenecks impacting frontline effectiveness and deploying automation or simplification solutions to enhance efficiency.
Process Excellence
• Deliver seamless client-centric experiences across human, digital, and hybrid channels, ensuring processes are intuitive, transparent, and efficient.
• Lead rigorous complaint management practices including root cause analysis and resolution, with a focus on identifying and addressing systemic issues, particularly those related to technology platforms.
• Ensure timely delivery and accuracy of client journeys, marketing scripts, and product offerings, supported by robust operating infrastructures.
• Foster an agile mindset across teams to rapidly adapt to changing market dynamics and continuously improve product and process delivery.
Skills and Experience
Candidates should bring a comprehensive understanding and proven expertise in several critical areas:
- In-depth knowledge of Mortgage Market Dynamics, including regulatory frameworks, customer behaviour, and competitive landscape influencing product design.
- Thorough understanding of Retail Deposit Market Dynamics, with an emphasis on customer segmentation, pricing sensitivities, and market trends.
- Expertise in Liquidity Management, Operational Risk, and Market Risk, ensuring all product strategies are developed within a robust risk management framework.
- Comprehensive insight into Credit Risk considerations and compliance requirements specific to mortgage lending.
- Strong financial acumen encompassing P&L management, balance sheet drivers, and revenue/cost/risk interrelations relevant to mortgage and deposit portfolios.
- Practical knowledge of operational workflows and risk exposure associated with deposits and mortgage products, facilitating efficient and compliant process implementation.
Qualifications
Educational Background: A degree in business management, finance, accounting, or banking is required, preferably supplemented by professional qualifications such as ACCA, CFA, or equivalent.
Professional Development: Commitment to continuous development as agreed with management, including relevant training programs focused on leadership, product innovation, and risk management.
Licenses and Certifications: Holding professional certificates in banking, finance, or accountancy is highly advantageous.
Memberships: Desirable to have memberships with professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the CFA Institute.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential for effective communication within a global banking environment.
