Title: Senior Compute Engineer

JOB SUMMARY
- This senior role is part of a team supporting a set of platforms running key business applications in the Bank. The team has several unique opportunities on an interesting and varied set of technologies with key strategic importance for the Bank. The role will demand in depth knowledge in IBM AIX suite of products, IBM SAN, IBM Tape Libraries, infrastructure, low latency implementations, automation, system monitoring and performance tuning. Knowledge of AS400, IBM i and Solaris operating systems is strongly desirable. The selected candidate is expected to perform engineering and operations responsibilities. The individual should be used to producing documentation, software version control and agile workload management.
Responsibilities:
Strategy
- SME role to provide all-lines (1st-3rd) BAU support to the Ecommerce / Business Platform
- High Severity incident management
- Change coordination and implementation adhering to Change Control and Fault Reporting procedures
- Problem Management and Root Cause Analysis
- Low Latency experience
- Audit, Risk and Control engagement.
- Business continuity management
- AIX LPAR OS build/rebuild from NIM experience
- VIO configuration and management
- NIM Configuration and Administration experience
- LPAR migration between physical frames experience
- OS/TL version migration/upgrade experience
- IBM SAN and IBM SAN Switch knowledge
- IBM Tape Library usage
- Knowledge of AS400, IBM i and Solaris operating systems is strongly desirable
- Mksysb backup configuration and restoration experience
- Ensures the platforms are aligned to the Bank’s security standards
- Produces security related updates and documentation as required
- Put forward ideas to improve automation and/or efficiency and own through to implementation.
- Drive Delivery/Engineering teams to provide fit-for-purpose solutions as required
- Work closely with Application Ops/Database/Network/DC/Market Data Infrastructure teams to improve platform service offering
- Infrastructure stability and pro-active health management.
- Server uplifts and decommission strategy
- Maintain up to date inventory of the estate using Configuration Management tooling
- Able to work with vendors and perform service reviews
- Technology cost ownership awareness
- Operating system optimisation
- Participate in an on-call rota
- Work out-of-hours/weekends as needed

Qualification
- Education University Degree
- Training Very strong knowledge of AIX administration

Role Specific Technical Competencies
- Experience in Banking
- AIX Administration
- Low Latency or trading system experience and Understanding of Low Latency/high performance computing
- Low Latency Architecture and system design
- Infrastructure operating system build and design experience hardware and software optimisation
- Working knowledge of storage infrastructure– SAN and NAS
- Expert understanding of NTP and DNS architecture
- IBMi experience
- Solaris knowledge
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and deliver
- Ability to resolve problems and incidents
- Excellent communication, both written and verbally
- Self starter, able to self manage with strong collaboration skills and able to interact effectively with others
