Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Associate to join our global Oil & Gas and Chemicals M&A Advisory team based in London. This role presents a remarkable opportunity to contribute significantly to complex cross-border transactions within an established and expanding team. The successful candidate will support senior colleagues in the origination and execution of mergers and acquisitions, engaging with a diverse range of clients and industries. This position offers valuable exposure to high-profile projects and the chance to develop expertise in strategic corporate finance solutions in a dynamic international banking environment.

As an Associate, you will play a key role in advancing our advisory services, working collaboratively across multiple functions within the bank to deliver innovative financial structuring and analysis. This role is ideal for proactive professionals eager to further develop technical skills, gain extensive industry knowledge, and contribute to the growth and success of our M&A advisory practice.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate will take on comprehensive responsibilities that span from the initial stages of transaction origination through to execution, ensuring successful completion of deals. Key accountabilities include:

  • Supporting the execution and origination of M&A transactions, liaising with various stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and delivery;
  • Constructing sophisticated financial models such as discounted cash flow (DCF) and leveraged buyout (LBO) analyses to accurately value companies, assess operational scenarios, and evaluate capital structures;
  • Preparing detailed and impactful presentation materials designed for client meetings, encompassing strategic alternatives, capital market activities, and corporate finance insights;
  • Participating actively in due diligence procedures and assisting in the drafting and review of transaction-related documentation;
  • Taking ownership of marketing and transaction documentation development, collaborating closely with senior team members including Directors and Vice Presidents;
  • Conducting thorough research into industry sectors, geographic markets, and companies to support benchmarking and informed decision-making;
  • Coordinating efforts with cross-functional deal teams across the bank to leverage expertise and resources;
  • Managing day-to-day project timelines and activities to maintain momentum and meet key deadlines on live transactions.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and personal attributes to thrive in the Associate role:

  • A relevant degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised institution; a first-class degree is considered advantageous;
  • Fluency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Prior experience within mergers and acquisitions, especially with knowledge of the Oil & Gas or Chemicals sectors, is highly desirable;
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Strong team spirit and exceptional interpersonal skills facilitating effective collaboration and mentorship;
  • Advanced computer skills, including expert-level Microsoft Office capabilities and proficiency in financial analytical software;
  • Passion for continuous learning and career development within corporate finance;
  • Composure and confidence to engage with senior stakeholders and clients professionally and respectfully.
