Job Summary

As an Associate Director in ARM Trading at Standard Chartered, you will play a crucial role in driving the success and expansion of our electronic Foreign Exchange (eFX) trading franchise. This role demands a mix of quantitative expertise, market awareness, and strategic thinking to optimise trading operations while adhering to regulatory frameworks. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams such as eSales, Algo Trading Quants, development, support, and compliance, you will ensure the seamless operation and continuous improvement of our automated risk management systems. This position is office-based in London and requires dedication to both routine responsibilities and strategic initiatives to maintain our competitive edge in electronic trading markets.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate Director, ARM Trading, will be responsible for a broad range of critical activities aimed at strengthening Standard Chartered's eFX trading capabilities:

  • Maximise electronic trading profitability index (eTPI) through sophisticated market analysis and strategy execution.
  • Drive the expansion of the eFX franchise within the boundaries of regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance at every stage.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Standard Chartered's overarching business strategy and align ARM trading activities accordingly.
  • Learn and assist in the operation and enhancement of the automated risk management system, promptly adjusting pricing and trading actions to mitigate risk.
  • Develop, analyse, and fine-tune pricing strategies and quantitative models to optimise bid-ask spreads and trade execution performance.
  • Gain familiarity with the technological architecture and tools facilitating real-time production eFX trading.
  • Understand segmentation of clients and sales channels to improve flow and service levels.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of historical client and market data to recommend enhancements in pricing structures and tier classifications.
  • Evaluate market trends and historical information to inform risk management and trade execution strategies that increase efficiency and reduce exposure.
  • Collaborate proactively with eSales teams, algorithmic traders, and quantitative specialists to implement innovative trading techniques.
  • Engage effectively with software development, support, and compliance units to manage business-as-usual activities as well as the rollout of new tools and approaches.

Skills and Experience

  • A strong academic foundation in quantitative or analytical disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Finance is essential to succeed in this role.
  • Extensive front office experience within electronic Foreign Exchange (eFX) trading or equivalent environments involving algorithmic, quantitative, or systematic trading.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electronic trading systems, pricing mechanisms, and risk management frameworks, enabling swift adaptation to evolving market conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of tasks with a proactive approach, thriving in a demanding, fast-paced trading setting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with advanced problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues in real time.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally with diverse teams, including sales, quants, developers, and compliance professionals.
