Job Summary
As a Director, CLO Structuring at Standard Chartered, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the structuring and execution of both public and private Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLO) opportunities across Europe and Americas. This position entails collaborating closely with our Capital Markets, Global Banking and Markets teams to actively enhance the bank's presence and deepen relationships with CLO clients. Your expert analysis, innovative ideas, and strategic recommendations will strengthen client engagement and advance the bank’s broader CLO and Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) strategy. A key component of this role is partnering with the Risk, Legal and Compliance teams to ensure the growth of the CLO business is both profitable and sustainable. You will also contribute to the execution and refinement of the Global Banking and broader Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) strategy for clients within Western markets. Upholding the highest standards of compliance, ethical conduct, and regulatory adherence will be fundamental throughout your work. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the structuring and execution of innovative public and private CLO transactions in the Western regions, focusing primarily on Europe and the Americas.
- Deliver comprehensive structuring, modelling, and execution support for primary CLOs and CLO warehouse origination activities within the Western markets.
- Work closely with both external transaction parties (collateral managers, investors, rating agencies, lawyers, trustee, accountants...) and internal stakeholders (Risk, Legal, Compliance, Syndicate, Sales and Trading) to manage the deal's timeline and achieve smooth execution.
- Provide detailed market and internal analyses including insights into evolving capital requirements, liquidity considerations, and rating agency methodologies affecting CLOs.
- Actively educate and collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and develop CLO opportunities with both new and existing client relationships.
- Contribute to the formulation of a granular, forward-looking strategy for the CLO business, supporting Global Banking leadership in achieving long-term objectives.
- Maintain and foster ongoing dialogues and relationships with third-party clients to reinforce Standard Chartered’s position in the market.
- Work in close partnership with Risk to ensure that CLO business growth aligns with the bank’s profitability targets and risk appetite.
- Assist the syndication teams during CLO transactions and provide support to distribution teams as required, ensuring alignment with client and business needs.
- Support the implementation of the wider Global Banking and Corporate and Institutional Banking strategies within your remit, helping to deliver cohesive client solutions across the West.
Skills and Experience
- Product knowledge in securitisation, particularly CLO structures and market dynamics.
- Advanced fixed income analysis, with the ability to assess and interpret complex financial instruments.
- Documentation and regulation expertise in securitisation, CLOs and asset backed lending
- Technical analytical capabilities including cash flow modelling and risk assessment.
- Strong client pitching skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively.
- Effective relationship management skills to build and maintain productive partnerships with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to educate and influence diverse teams across multiple geographies.
- Adaptability to navigate regulatory landscapes and ensure compliance.
- Proficiency in collaborating with rating agencies and understanding their assessment criteria.
Qualifications
- Strong educational background in finance, economics, or related disciplines.
- Proven experience in CLO structuring and issuance, preferably with a background in financial institutions or rating agencies.
- Exceptional cash flow modelling skills to support transaction structuring and valuation.
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience in legal documentation and negotiation processes relevant to CLO transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with rating agencies, including familiarity with their methodologies and decision-making frameworks.
- Relevant certifications such as FCA Certified Person or equivalent regulatory qualifications are highly desirable.
