Job Summary

The Commodity Trade Finance Team (CTF) at Standard Chartered comprises industry experts dedicated to delivering comprehensive trade finance solutions for the commodity client base of the Bank. This team plays a pivotal role in managing a wide array of trade products, including both standard and bespoke offerings and is recognised for its technical excellence and disciplined risk judgement.

As a core member of the CTF team, you will be responsible for originating, structuring and closing bespoke commodity trade finance facilities and ensuring the solutions developed meet client needs and are compliant with the Bank’s policies and procedures. The role demands a balance of commercial acumen and vigilance in monitoring client risk metrics.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to engage with complex trade financing structures and contribute to the strategic evolution of Standard Chartered’s CTF business. We are seeking a disciplined and detail oriented individual to join the team at Director level. This role is designed for a proven commodity trade finance professional with deep structuring capability, strong commercial judgment, and the credibility to operate at senior levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, structure and execute bespoke commodity trade finance transactions across the full lifecycle, from initial client engagement through approval, documentation, implementation, ongoing monitoring and renewal.
  • Coordinate and manage the end‑to‑end internal approval process, including engagement with Credit, Global Product Heads, Risk, Legal, CFCC, Operations and senior stakeholders. Lead internal discussions, negotiation of facility documentation (in conjunction with Legal) and ensure timely resolution of queries.
  • Produce high‑quality written materials including transaction proposals, credit papers, and senior‑level presentations, demonstrating analytical depth and clear articulation of risks and mitigants.
  • Work closely with coverage, implementation, and service teams to uphold consistent, high-quality, and superior client experiences throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Co-own and drive the CTF P&L in partnership with the Trade Sales teams.
  • Foster and maintain strong, sustainable client relationships at various organisational levels.
  • Integrate Trade Distribution into deal structuring practices to optimise Risk-Weighted Asset (RWA) efficiency and increase capacity to meet client financing requirements.
  • Lead and encourage disciplined and robust execution of action plans aimed at improving returns and mitigating risk.
  • Apply knowledge of commodity trading practices effectively to the structuring and delivery of trade finance products, ensuring relevance and competitiveness.

Qualifications

  • Possess a relevant higher education qualification in finance, economics, business, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate substantial prior experience working within Structured Commodity Finance, ideally gained in a leading financial institution.
  • Proven track record in originating and executing complex trade finance transactions and managing senior‑level client relationships.
  • Motivated and ambitious professional, eager for growth and continuous development. Clear, structured communicator with the ability to influence through substance rather than volume.

We value candidates who are proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, with a strong ethical compass and commitment to delivering exceptional client service while managing risk prudently.
