Summary
Join Standard Chartered as an EM Rates Trader based in London, with primary focus on Turkish markets within the European region. The role centres on pricing, risk management and execution across rates products, with direct responsibility for supporting product revenues and managing client-driven risk.
You will actively monitor market flows, develop trade ideas and provide pricing and execution across instruments such as Turkish Government Bonds, Interest Rate Swaps and Cross-Currency Swaps. The role requires a strong understanding of macro drivers and the ability to translate market developments into trading strategies and client solutions.
In addition to core trading responsibilities, you will contribute to the development of the EM Rates franchise by working closely with Sales and supporting client activity through market insights and efficient execution. You will also be involved in improving trading tools and supporting the ongoing development of electronic trading capabilities.
This is a front-office role suited to someone comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, with solid technical knowledge of rates products and a disciplined approach to risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mitigate risks arising from client trades in line with internal policies and risk limits.
- Monitor macroeconomic and market developments, incorporating them into trading strategies and positioning.
- Analyse market flows and generate trade ideas across rates products and regions.
- Provide pricing, execution and market insights to Sales and clients across rates products.
- Support product revenues through effective pricing, risk management and client activity.
- Deliver against assigned revenue targets as outlined in the P3 framework.
- Contribute to the development of trading tools, risk infrastructure and electronic execution capabilities.
- Support automation of product offerings to improve efficiency and client access.
- Develop new product ideas and structures to support client demand and market activity.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and desk efficiency.
- Contribute to the growth of the EM Rates franchise across Europe and key clients.
- Build and maintain client relationships through relevant market insights and trade ideas.
- Partner with Sales to support client activity and originate new opportunities.
- Maintain awareness of broader business strategy and market environment.
Skills and Experience
- Strong experience in EM rates trading, including execution and risk management across client-driven flows.
- Solid knowledge of rates products including Government Bonds, IRS, OIS and Cross-Currency Swaps.
- Proven ability to manage market and credit risk within defined risk limits and internal frameworks.
- Good understanding of yield curves, rate cycles and key macro drivers across EM markets.
- Ability to generate trade ideas based on market flows and macro developments.
- Comfortable providing pricing, execution support and market colour to Sales and clients.
- Strong quantitative skills applied to pricing, valuation and market analysis.
- Experience working with electronic trading platforms and supporting trading / risk tools.
- Ability to communicate complex market views clearly to internal teams and clients.
- Team-oriented, working closely with Sales, Trading and Risk.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or similar.
- Strong experience in EM rates trading with exposure to client flows.
- Hands-on experience in Turkish rates products, including Government Bonds, IRS, OIS and Cross-Currency Swaps.
- Good understanding of EM rates markets, including curve dynamics and local drivers.
- Knowledge of funding, liquidity and cross-currency basis.
- Fluent in English and Turkish.
- Relevant regulatory certifications (UK) are a plus.
