JOB SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join Standard Chartered as the Managing Director, Regional Head of Corporate Real Estate & Services "CRES" for Europe, Americas. Africa, Middle East and Pakistan "EA & AMEP". This pivotal role is based in London and sits in the Group CRES Management Team, reporting to the Global Head. As a key leader within our organisation, you will drive strategic initiatives that underpin our corporate infrastructure and service excellence. In this role you will oversee the following key responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
• Member of the Group CRES Management Team, with collective responsibility for developing the CRES Strategy aligned with the overall Bank strategy, managing resources, overall financial and risk management as well as being the regional representative on the Management Team.
• Develop, implement and deliver regional and country CRES strategies, influencing key geographic and business stakeholders to ensure optimal solutions are implemented.
• Accountable for the CRES geographic operating model and resourcing/budget decisions. Lead the specific region and optimisation of regional and country resources and specialisms (Asset Management, Project Management, Facilities Management and others) applicable to the specific markets, working closely with CRES subject matter expert centres of excellence.
• Accountable for managing a portfolio of 30+ markets, spread across 1.8m square feet of branch and office space, supporting more than 12,000 SC staff across 35 countries.
• Managing a regional operating budget of more than $180m, through geographic teams in the most effective and efficient manner in support of and aligned with the business strategy, through continually improving operating metrics relating to space use, costs and employee experience. Manage 8 direct reports.
• Accountable for CRES engagement model with regional/country CEO’s and business leaders, to ensure the function has a deep understanding of strategic business needs and influence business outcomes beyond express needs.
• As a key member of the Strategy and Talent function for the region, ensure collaboration with the function when delivering investment projects or strategic initiatives which will enhance brand value and colleague experience.
• Lead and enable key business/market strategies in relation to divestment or new market entries
• Responsible for annual Corporate Plan for the region including where necessary engagement with business stakeholders for cost transfers.
Business
• The role is accountable through regional and country CRES teams to ensure all aspects of the CRES function are well managed, well operated and provide safe and productive work environment for the group’s staff and customers.
• Direct engagement with members of RMT, Regional/country CEO’s and other key stakeholders on strategic CRES management themes, influencing outcomes in the bank’s interests.
• Act as a liaison between the RMT and CRES for Regional Crisis Management.
Processes
• Act as second line of assurance underpinning SME responsibilities
• Alignment with Group functional and specialist leads
• Lead change management for transformation activities and hub innovation
• Lead development of process, innovation, change
• Leads and guides retained management organisation (includes Supplier Managers, Contract Managers and Operational Risk Managers) to ensure service provider is delivering to the agreed service level agreements and performance standards
• Leads in country strategic management and decision-making on CRES related matters
• Lead assurance testing on the retained teams both in the hub as well as the countries to provide evidence of compliance with the relevant group policies, procedures and standards
• Lead and empower teams to ensure the Region meets its respective agreed sustainability targets
People & Talent
• Ensure supply partners are effectively managed and continue to deliver service excellence and good value to the bank through an optimised operating and delivery model.
• Management of the Regional CRES team, strategic guidance of the country CRES teams across the region and steer the partnership between CRES, business, the local regulators and the supply partner for providing future focused, innovative, robust and affordable solutions.
• Leads definition and implementation of regional training/development needs
Risk Management
• As SME for CRES Management, Safety and Security Management (including H&S regulations) in the region, responsible under the Group Operational Risk Type Framework (ORTF) for ensuring that the residual risks within the scope of CRES responsibilities remain within appetite. In discharging this responsibility, the Regional Head must:
• Challenge and verify First Line risk identification and assessments, in line with changes in the internal and external environment
• Identify and report key risks and ensure where outside of the risk appetite they are escalated to the appropriate body for risk acceptance
• Maintain a good understanding of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to CRES Risk control areas
• Monitor compliance with and effectiveness of the risk control environment
• Monitor ‘live’ risk issues and events material to the Bank and verify whether appropriate management action is being taken to mitigate their impact
• Advise governance bodies on key risks, the effectiveness of mitigants and controls, and alignment of residual risks with appetite
• Ensure always that operations in region / country are audit ready
• Risk control owner for all CRES related risks, including Health and Safety, Security and Business Continuity Management.
• Responsible for ensuring that the residual risks within the scope of responsibilities for managing the risk control areas of CRES remain within appetite at Regional level.
Our Ideal Candidate
• Experience - significant previous experience of Corporate Real Estate Senior positions
• Preferred Qualifications – MBA or similar (experience more important than qualification). Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Facilities Management, engineering or other business-related discipline preferred, or equivalent
• Knowledge (preferably with certifications) of the facilities/real estate market as well as a keen understanding of customer service principles
• Demonstrated resourcefulness in seeking out market opportunities and leveraging supplier base to maximum advantage
• Exceptional leadership capabilities and experience managing large multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong Communication and Negotiation skills
• Membership - CoreNet (optional), RICS (optional)
• Certifications - Facilities & Real Estate Management (preferable)
