Job Summary
Group Internal Audit (GIA) is looking for an experienced and dynamic audit professional with a solid background and strong knowledge around the key risks and controls to be an integral part of the Global Wealth and Retail Banking (WRB) Audit team. The team provides independent assessments of risk management and internal control environment globally across lending and non-lending WRB products that are offered to Personal Banking, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), Affluent and Private Banking client segments. The role holder will also lead the India WRB audit team.

This role currently reports to Head of Audit, India and matrix to Group Head of Audit, Personal and SME Banking.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead high quality audit engagements across planning, fieldwork and reporting for assigned WRB audits with particular focus on audits on Personal and SME Banking segments. This would involve drafting of audit issues and reports, obtaining agreement with Senior Management on action plans and ensuring all audit work by self and team members be delivered within budgets and timelines, and be in full adherence to GIA methodology standards.
- Keep abreast of existing and emerging internal and external risk trends, industry business practices and technology developments to drive best-in-class risk assessments, continuous monitoring, training, and audit planning. Support heads of audits to formulate audit plans focussed on key risks, client outcomes and regulatory requirements and ensure the plan always remains relevant.
- Develop and independently manage relationships with Senior Management in India and globally (for Personal and SME segments) to ensure comprehensive understanding of business strategy and plans and to get agreements on audit issues and results.
- Lead and drive effective use of advanced analytics in all audits, continuous monitoring, and risk assessments and to support various GIA audit transformation related initiatives.
- Be a subject matter expert in risk and auditing in an assigned area within Personal and SME Banking; prepare and continuously update training and audit programs that are used for up-skilling auditors and performing audits globally in the assigned area.
- Prepare presentations, risk reports and dashboards for GIA’s reporting in in India / Global / Regional senior risk and governance committees. The reports should focus on join-the-dot themes and existing and emerging risk areas.
- Support Head of Audit India in local regulatory matters and ensure GIA’s credibility and trust is always maintained with the regulator.
People Leadership
- Lead the India WRB Audit team and be responsible from recruitment, coaching, performance management, compensation, and training and professional development.
- Continuously engage, motivate, and drive team members to deliver highest quality audit and non-audit work. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Support heads of audits to proactively spot talent for GIA.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
- Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
- Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

Qualifications
- Experienced internal auditor or risk professional with minimum 12 years of experience and progressive career growth. A significant part of the career should be around WRB including SME businesses in a bank.
- In-depth expertise in key risks including credit risk and preferably financial crime risk, operational risk and compliance / conduct risk. Have a good understanding of technology and cyber security risks to be able to drive integrated front-to-back audit assignments.
- Demonstrate sound professional judgment to balance risk and reward, think client and understand the latest developments in financial services (like generative Artificial Intelligence, Digital Assets) to be able to both use and audit these.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to influence change, obtain buy-ins from senior management and interact with regulators independently to drive GIA’s agenda.
- Proactive, self-directed, and able to drive self and team to innovate and build best practices. Able to operate independently with minimum supervision.
- Able to work within a global team and adapt and learn from people of different cultures and working styles.
- Professional accounting or audit qualification is strongly preferred (for example CA, ACCA, CIA);
- Proven leadership skills and demonstrated ability to motivate and guide audit teams. Prior people leadership experience is strongly preferable.
- Highly evolved communication skills, both written and verbal, is essential.
- Exposure to Indian banking industry is essential and exposure to other regional or global markets is strongly preferable.
- Ability to commit to limited business travel within and outside India.
