AI Research Internship Programme 2027

Join our AI Research and Experimentation team and work alongside AI researchers, engineers and business leaders, as well as PhD researchers and academics from universities and research institutions around the world. You’ll contribute to research projects exploring emerging areas of AI and how they can be applied to real challenges in banking.

With our international network of research collaborations, you’ll gain exposure to different perspectives and areas of expertise while building your understanding of AI research in a global organisation.

If you’re curious about AI, excited by new ideas and want to explore how research and innovation can create real-world impact, this could be the place for you.

About the Internship Programme – how you’ll learn and grow

Join a skills-first organisation where your potential matters more than your background.  Over 10 weeks, you’ll work on real business challenges, build future-ready skills, and gain insight into how we support clients, facilitate trade and finance growth across our markets. Working alongside colleagues across our global network, you’ll develop the skills, confidence and connections to accelerate your career. For many interns, this is the first step towards a graduate role with us.

The programme will support your development through:

  • A 10-week summer internship
  • A structured induction and orientation
  • Exposure to our products, clients and international network
  • Real projects and meaningful responsibilities from day one
  • Technical, professional and behavioural skills development
  • Support from managers, mentors and buddies
  • Opportunities to learn from senior leaders and industry experts
  • Community and volunteering initiatives.

You’ll work alongside experienced AI researchers, engineers and business leaders on collaborative research projects, from developing new research ideas and reviewing proposals to running experiments and exploring how emerging AI could be used in banking.

Bring the skills - we’ll help you build your career

We welcome students from a range of backgrounds who bring different perspectives, experiences and ways of thinking.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are studying Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Engineering or a related discipline, with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning.
  • Have working knowledge of Python and experience building prototypes, ideally using generative AI, large language models or machine learning frameworks.
  • Are curious about emerging technologies and enjoy researching new ideas, experimenting and communicating what you discover clearly.
  • Take ownership and show initiative.
  • Think critically and solve problems using logic and sound judgement.
  • Learn quickly, stay curious and look for ways to grow.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Adapt and perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Show an interest in how technology and innovation can be applied to real business challenges.
  • Communicate confidently and work effectively with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
