The position is strategically positioned within the Net Zero and Carbon Accounting (NZCA) team to support the delivery of the Group’s commitments to achieve net zero in our financed emissions by 2050. The Net Zero programme is a key strategic initiative for the bank and necessitates collaboration across CIB and WRB sectoral business leads. Additionally, the role will involve problem-solving in an emerging field as calculation and reporting requirements evolve for quantitative carbon disclosures, while collaborating with key stakeholders on operationalising and executing net zero targets as outlined in the Group’s Transition Plan. Over time, net zero sectoral models will necessitate continuous simplification, updates, and endorsements as new and enhanced data feeds and providers are analysed and utilised.
The holder of the role must be detail-oriented with excellent stakeholder management skills. A motivated self-starter who embraces challenges presented to them and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Collaborate with Net Zero and Carbon Accounting sectoral leads to develop sectoral datasets essential for baselining and target setting as per the Group’s Departmental Operating Instruction documentation
•    Contribute to the development of materials, tools and methodologies to support our Net Zero proposition for use in client meetings, engagements, events, and broader thought leadership initiatives
•    Engage with internal stakeholders in the development and coordination of Net Zero offerings
•    Assist in the management of Group’s Departmental Operating Instruction documentation, sectoral research data such as emissions, physical and production data
•    Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of climate risk regulations alongside an awareness of broader banking regulations, market trends, competitor activity and products/services

•    Work in conjunction with Group Finance and Environmental, Social, Governance and Reputational Risk (“ESGR”) team to update financed and facilitated emission figures on a quarterly basis
•    Support coordination efforts with stakeholders from other areas within CIB to ensure that both the Net Zero book of works and new processes are successfully implemented.

•    The team is a flat structure with all team members expected to teach and learn from each other.

•    Escalate any issues related to delays in the implementation of models or data collection to NZCA for developing appropriate mitigation action plans
•    Analyse the evolving landscape of the finance sector and how technology, regulation, demographic, carbon accounting, and reporting trends may impact the Bank's net zero workstreams.

•    Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

•    Possesses a robust analytical, scientific, and/or mathematical background with the ability and interest in utilizing that expertise to develop net zero/decarbonisation models.
•    Provides support with the onboarding of new vendors.
•    Exhibits excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
•    Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to lead diverse groups and cultivate robust networks.
•    Displays strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task effectively, adopting a practical solutions-driven approach.
•    Possesses excellent stakeholder management skills across individuals within the firm as well as our banking clients

Our Ideal Candidate

•    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Science. 
•    Experience working with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) and Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) standards.
•    2+ years of relevant professional experience in environmental science or carbon modelling within the financial sector is preferred
