Job Description: 

Job Summary

Our Origination Bankers help clients access loan, bond and structured funding markets financing solutions. They engage with senior client stakeholders across markets and sectors, financing risk, banking and coverage relationship managers, financial markets sales, sustainable finance and credit risk and several other subject matter experts to structure these solutions. You’ll be accountable for delivering well-structured, returns accretive, risk-optimal financing solutions, to our clients. You'll have a strong understanding of primary credit markets, key industry developments within the business line you’re supporting, fundamentals of valuation and risk assessment and adept at negotiating, communicating and influencing stakeholders in decision making. 

Strategy
•    Further develop the LAF business strategy for the region – product revenue and market share.
•    Increase SCB’s profile in the region and up-tier market presence.  Ensure we are consistently and effectively offering all relevant credit market solutions and related products to our clients and continually innovating to meet their evolving needs.
•    Ensure a consistently high level of client service and aim to maximize repeat business with our client base.  Act with the highest professional standards in all our dealings with clients, investors, third parties and all our internal partners.

Business
•    Work on driving the overall strategy of LAF business as well as idea generation and relevant information sharing, resourcing and best practices.
•    Manage origination of key transactions as well as internal and external marketing
•    Lead LAF team in working with client teams and across products to identify and target transactions, cross-sell and execute deals 
•    Oversee robust deal selection, conflict resolution and risk management to ensure the business is consistent with the strategy and risk appetite of the Bank 
•    Ensure transaction structures are in line with client requirements, market standards and the Bank’s internal risk parameters 
•    Monitor and deliver financial performance targets, optimizing risk and return 
•    Build effective long-term relationships with clients and major market players  

Processes

•    Lead the origination effort in the region, pre-screening opportunities.  To ensure the highest level of origination standards in terms of quality of work, and client service.
•    Manage business and risk management process issues by interacting (where required) with representatives on various risk, governance and control committees
•    Ensure rigorous and thorough due diligence standards are maintained in deal execution, in line with best industry practise, regulatory and internal requirement.
•    Ensure prompt updation of the deal pipeline to ensure senior management has good visibility on the business performance.

People & Talent
•    Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values.  Set appropriate tone and expectations for direct reports and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
•    Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people.
•    Employ, engage and retain high quality people, ensuring that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles and they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks
•    Responsibility to review team structure/capacity plans and succession planning for critical roles
•    Ensure active communication of vision, priorities and progress to the business to foster engagement, awareness and motivation.
•    Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
•    Encourage staff to ‘speak up’ in the event of any realised or perceived breach of group conduct rules or laws by colleagues.

Risk Management
•    Ensure the highest standards of due diligence and documentation are performed during deal execution.
•    Facilitate internal approvals for transactions where necessary and ensure key transaction risks are flagged for consideration.
•    Enforce a culture of risk management, control and governance, and ensure direct reports comply with the risk management processes in place. This includes (but not limited to) compliance with country-level Portfolio Standards, Underwriting Standards, PPGs
•    Through assignment to direct reports ensure that adequate and appropriate systems, control and procedures are in place to comply with Group and Business policies, procedures, standards and codes, including those governing all Risk types, compliance, Technology and Operations, Finance and Reputation
•    Proactively advise and monitor all major risk issues and concentrations. Where appropriate, direct remedial action and/ or ensure adequate escalation and reporting to the Board and its Risk Committees.

Governance
•    Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
•    Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’ capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 1 plus years of leveraged/specialised finance/ private credit experience, ideally covering the ASEAN region.
  • Candidates with relevant internship experience will be considered. 
  • Open to candidates with M&A advisory / industry coverage background with very strong technical knowhow  
  • Familiarity with debt instruments used across the capital structure, specifically in the context of financial sponsors and levered credits
  • Strong orientation for credit analysis and risk management of loan portfolio.
  • Hands-on execution experience in running the end-to-end deal life cycle process (from deal origination to documentation)
  • Knowledge of structuring and target investor spectrum for structured/levered financings/private credit
  • Deal execution experience across jurisdictions in ASEAN, and associated knowledge of regulatory/legal framework
  • Strong financial modelling skills, debt structuring considerations, documentation
