Job Summary
• The Associate Coverage Banker supports the delivery of the bank’s client and coverage strategy by acting as an execution partner to Coverage Bankers and Senior Coverage Bankers across a defined portfolio of clients within assigned segments (Corp/ BBD/ Investors/ Sponsors/ SAS), helping deliver sustainable, risk‑adjusted client outcomes, including supporting transition and sustainable finance activity and cross‑border, network‑led opportunities to drive measurable wallet growth.
• Working in close partnership with, the role is accountable for executing agreed client strategies by building a holistic, end‑to‑end understanding of client needs and addressable wallet, preparing high‑quality origination and risk materials, and coordinating across products, risk and functional teams to deliver disciplined, risk‑adjusted client outcomes. They do so leveraging data and AI‑enabled insights to sharpen prioritisation, improve materials quality, and support high‑impact client and pipeline conversations. In doing so, the role plays a critical part in ensuring coverage plans translate into effective execution, strong risk discipline and a consistent client experience across the coverage lifecycle.
• Through hands‑on exposure to origination, portfolio management, risk processes and cross‑functional collaboration, the role builds the commercial judgement, risk awareness and stakeholder capability required to progress into broader Coverage Banker responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities
• The Associate Coverage Banker is an individual contributor role, accountable for execution, analysis and coordination in support of Coverage led client strategy and relationship ownership.
Prospecting and Onboarding
• Prospect assessment: Analyse prospective clients against commercial, financial and risk considerations (including credit, AML, ESG and reputational factors) to support Coverage‑led prospect screening, ensuring focus on clients with the strongest potential to deliver sustainable returns and long‑term wallet growth, aligned to revenue thresholds, sector/segment priorities and multi‑market potential.
• Client proposition execution: Prepare insight-driven, strategically aligned client pitches and origination materials in partnership with Product teams, clearly articulating the value, pricing considerations and financial outcomes of proposed solutions, leveraging AI‑enabled client, sector and thematic insights.
• Onboarding support: Coordinate onboarding activities with Client Management, Risk and Operations to support timely account opening and resolution of KYC or documentation requirements, escalating where matters are complex, sensitive or pose heightened risk.
Planning and Origination
• Account mapping: Analyse and end-to-end view of client structures, entities and decision‑makers to identify multi‑product and multi‑market opportunities, focusing effort on the highest‑value relationships and opportunities.
• Client strategy execution: Translate agreed account strategies into actionable origination priorities and quantified financial targets, informed by AI‑enabled client, sector and thematic insights, aligned with Product partners and senior stakeholders to deliver measurable wallet growth.
• Deal origination and evaluation: Prepare financial analysis, transaction materials and deal evaluations to inform pricing discipline, structuring and prioritisation discussions, supporting delivery of disciplined, risk‑adjusted returns.
• Deal documentation support: Coordinate inputs and manage documentation workflows with Product, Risk, CFCR and Legal, supporting negotiation readiness on commercials, risk and terms, and ensuring documentation reflects deal economics and governance requirements.
• Capital approvals: Prepare analysis and supporting materials to support Coverage led capital approval and CAF processes, coordinating inputs and tracking progress through governance.
• Marketing and client activity: Prepare sector/thematic content, client materials and coordination of client events to expand engagement touchpoints and reinforce thought leadership and origination momentum.
Portfolio Management
• Cross‑sell execution: Conduct forward-looking reviews of client wallets, utilisation and product penetration using data and AI-enabled insights to identify gaps, shape a high‑quality, return‑focused pipeline, and drive execution of cross‑sell actions.
• Portfolio optimisation and offboarding execution: Execute analysis, remediation and tail actions to support Coverage led portfolio optimisation and client offboarding decisions, ensuring disciplined follow through.
• Balance sheet discipline: Monitor utilisation, returns and balance sheet metrics, supporting capital efficiency and portfolio performance objectives, including RWA reduction/remediation where relevant.
Risk Management
• Credit risk: Prepare and maintain high‑quality financial analysis, monitoring materials and credit documentation to support reviews, renewals and early risk identification.
• Non‑financial risks: Support execution of AML, KYC, reputational, fraud and ESG requirements through accurate data management, timely reviews and proactive escalation of issues in line with policy and governance standards.
Service and Operations
• Coverage Bankers retain overall accountability for the client relationship and experience, while primary responsibility for day‑to‑day operational activities sits with Associate Coverage Bankers, Client Managers and Client Service teams. Associate Coverage Bankers coordinate execution, resolve issues and escalate appropriately to ensure coverage priorities are delivered efficiently and client impact is minimised.
• KYC and client onboarding: Coordinate onboarding and client lifecycle activities, progressing KYC and documentation issues to resolution and escalating directly where matters are complex, sensitive or pose heightened risk.
• TB and Lending Transactions: Support resolution of Transaction Banking and Lending issues, maintaining deal momentum and enabling timely Coverage led escalation.
• Ops/Service/Sales coordination: Coordinate day‑to‑day service and operational activity across Operations, Platforms, COO, Risk and Client Service teams, capturing and escalating client, pricing and servicing issues, and feeding back execution gaps to support continuous improvement and minimise client impact.
Our Ideal Candidate
• Ideally 6+ years experience in coverage role in Banking
• Experience supporting complex client or stakeholder work through strong analysis, coordination, and disciplined execution in fast‑paced, risk‑aware environments.
• Exposure to financial, risk, regulatory or control processes, demonstrating sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to operate within governance frameworks.
• Proven ability to translate strategy into action by working across teams, using data and structured problem‑solving to deliver outcomes and manage competing priorities.
• Formal credit or risk certifications (preferred).
• Training in AML/KYC, conduct, sustainability or regulatory fundamentals (preferred).
• Familiarity with CRM, digital sales and productivity tools.
