Job Summary

 

The candidate will help provide strategic advice to clients on the structuring and issuance of green, social, sustainability, sustainability-linked and transition debt, including new and innovative solutions as the market evolves. The role involves supporting the pitching efforts with clients, supporting the structuring work on frameworks and execution of transactions, liaising with independent verifiers, investors and regulators, as well as producing content and thought leadership in representing Standard Chartered Bank to external industry bodies. The candidate will be expected to have broader experience within the sustainability space such as second party opinion verification, ESG ratings, ESG investor mandates, sustainable finance regulations, experience with impact/allocation reporting, carbon credits or thematic areas including outcome bonds, Debt for ESG swaps, biodiversity or blue economy themed transactions to bring value-add to the team. Training will be provided to the candidate on DCM related aspects of the role. 

Additionally, the role will require the candidate to support DCM execution and origination business. This will involve supporting origination activity, developing content for pitchbooks, creating market updates, conducting investor analysis etc. The candidate will also support execution through the deal life cycle

This is an Associate Director role is based in Singapore. As part of the team, you will work closely with regional DCM originators, the relationship managers, industry teams and the broader sustainable finance teams, focused primarily on the bank’s client base and be responsible for supporting the marketing and advisory efforts for sustainable bonds and to support the broader team globally. The role will report into the Head of DCM & Sustainable Bonds.

 

Responsibilities

 

Strategy-Awareness and understanding of the business strategy of Global Banking and sustainability agenda as well as the broader Sustainable Finance strategy of the Group. The role contributes to the execution of this strategy. Awareness and understanding of DCM FI client business.


Business-Awareness and understanding of clients in the respective coverage region as well as the wider business and market environment in terms of sustainable finance and FI DCM.

 
Processes-Responsible for originating and executing Sustainable Bond transactions across Asia and Middle East  and origination and execution of DCM FI transactions


People & Talent -Develop the product knowledge base within the banks via product teach ins for SCB staff across Global Banking, Relationship management etc

    
Risk Management-Ensure proper controls and measures are in place in daily engagement with clients and internal stakeholders. Ensuring that all DCM internal processes and controls are being adhered to and refined where needed.


Governance -Responsible for having a sound awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates and the regulatory requirements or expectations of the role

Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree: qualifications in environmental and allied areas will be a plus
  • 5+ years of relevant banking experience with 3 + years each in DCM origination and sustainable finance origination
  • Sustainable Finance related experience including ESG framework structuring, working on second party opinion delivery, ESG ratings, carbon financing, sustainability reporting standards etc.
  • Good understanding of the global, regional, and national Sustainable Finance market standards and regulatory developments particularly in relation to the key markets covered e.g., ICMA and LMA principles, EU Taxonomy, EU Green Bond Standard, Climate Bonds Standard etc.
  • Experience with DCM deal origination, pitching and execution
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with the team
  • Extensive experience with PowerPoint & Excel with strong analytical skills
  • Attention to details, organized with good communication skills with the ability to work with colleagues across different teams.
