Job Summary


Our Origination Bankers help clients access loan, bond and structured funding markets financing solutions. They engage with senior client stakeholders across markets and sectors, financing risk, banking and coverage relationship managers, financial markets sales, sustainable finance and credit risk and several other subject matter experts to structure these solutions. 

You’ll be accountable for delivering well-structured, returns accretive, risk-optimal financing solutions, to our clients. You'll have a strong understanding of primary credit markets, key industry developments within the business line you’re supporting, fundamentals of valuation and risk assessment and adept at negotiating, communicating and influencing stakeholders in decision making.

Our Markets team provides clients with risk management, financing and investment expertise through the provision of bespoke solutions across asset classes.  They do this by building trusted relationships across industries and sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
• Support M&A Management in the implementation of the M&A SEA client strategy, the market positioning strategy and the customer value proposition while ensuring alignment with the Group Code of Conduct.
• Work with the bank’s sector teams and regional teams to drive the M&A business and ensure alignment with their respective business plans.
• Work to meet the milestones against which the progress of the M&A SEA strategy is measured. 

Business
• Work with M&A management to originate and execute buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions across SEA.
• Engage with senior decision makers at our clients and work towards becoming a trusted advisor.
• Leverage the bank’s network to identify and drive cross-border transactions.
• Work with M&A management to reinforce a high-performance culture with a particular focus on pitching intensity, execution quality and client satisfaction while evaluating constant trade-offs involving risk management and resource deployment.
• Assist with driving financial performance towards the budget for M&A SEA.
• Support M&A management to evaluate the suitability of M&A advice and consider material aspects at the appropriate governing committees. 

Processes
• Support M&A management to manage the implementation of policies and control standards set by risk control owners and policy owners, ensuring compliance and operating within risk tolerance and risk appetite. Ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems, controls and procedures relating to M&A SEA, that they are regularly and independently tested, assessed and improved in a timely manner. 
• Support M&A management to drive continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes to increase the consistency of global systems and processes.
• Support M&A management to ensure that systems, controls and procedures are commensurate with the nature, scale and complexity of the M&A SEA business, taking into account of all relevant circumstances (including the external environment).
• Support M&A management to ensure there is a framework for effective management of operational risks within M&A SEA and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations.
• Support M&A management to support the delivery of the M&A SEA strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis – incorporating infrastructure requirements and building a business that is fit-for-growth.

People & Talent
• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations for M&A SEA business and work in collaboration with risk and control partners. 

Risk Management
• Support the M&A management to ensure there are appropriate frameworks in place so that the M&A SEA business is carried out within the Group’s risk appetite and reputational and credit risks are appropriately managed in conjunction with direct reports and other stakeholders.
• Comply with the highest standards of regulatory conduct and compliance standards and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. This includes compliance with anti-money laundering regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure any audit and compliance issues relating to the M&A SEA business are resolved in a timely manner.
• Ensure that Risk Management matters that are brought to the job-holder’s attention are subject to direct remedial action and/or escalated, where appropriate to relevant risk committees

Governance
• Enforce a culture of risk management, control and governance, and ensure that SEA M&A complies with the risk management processes in place
• Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role

Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

• Lead the SEA M&A team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment. 
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters
• Help build a culture of good conduct in M&A SEA, and ensure that the principles of the Group Code of Conduct are embedded in the day to day activities of staff, in accordance with HR policies/procedures. 
• Ensure compliance with the Fit and Proper guidelines.

Our Ideal candidate

 

  • 5+ years of experience with M&A transactions
  • Track record of executing buy-side and sell-side transactions, including listed company transactions
  • Experience in idea generation, pitching and originating
  • Southeast Asia experience
  • Strong valuation skills
