JOB SUMMARY

To support, implement and commercialize the development, enhancement, and launch of trade products including Receivables Purchase while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. This role bridges product innovation, risk management, and operational efficiency.

•    Design, launch and optimize trade finance products tailored for SME client needs.
•    Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities. 
•    Collaborate with sales, operations, and technology teams to implement product roadmaps.
•    Monitor product performance (KPIs, profitability, adoption) and recommend improvements plan. 
•    Ensure adherence and compliance to regulatory requirements & internal policies.
•    Develop and maintain policies, procedures and controls for trade operations. 
•    Lead audit and risk assessments, addressing gaps in governance framework.
•    Liaise with legal, compliance, operations risk, credit teams to mitigate operational or legal risk. 
•    Provide internal trade training to raise trade awareness on product features, new digitalization process, new system implementation, etc. 
•    Run and manage Trade campaigns to increase trade utilization or trade assets.
•    Work closely with internal stakeholder to streamline trade workflows to reduce turnaround time. 
•    Drive adoption of digital solutions.
•    Provide Trade Advisory to the RM teams on the bank’s latest trade capabilities including receivables purchase, market developments, competitor’s analysis and identification of new sales opportunities.  
•    Ensure product adherence to Compliance, Operational, Business and Fraud risk procedures and other internal & external regulations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
•    Develop the strategy for, and manage the overall Trade offering for SME Banking clients
•    Ensure that Trade offering is aligned to the refreshed Group SME Banking strategy 
•    Benchmark our Trade proposition against client needs and competition offerings, especially in key markets, to identify gaps and opportunities
•    Provide data driven analytics & insights to drive strategic discussions at the SME Management Team 
•    Drive end-to-end digitization of trade offerings in SME Banking 
•    Drive overall engagement with CIB, across Product teams, Supply Chain Financing, Operations, Channels and Service Delivery 

Business
•    Assess the Trade products including Receivables Purchase that are required to meet the working capital requirements of SME clients and ensure that these are agreed with Transaction Banking and enabled for relevant markets 
•    Develop and strengthen the supply chain proposition, primarily through pre-shipment & distributor financing for key CIB anchors
•    Support the Partnerships team in SME Banking, where required, in enabling trade products for Small Business clients sourced through platform/Fintech partnerships
•    Work closely with the country product and segment heads to deliver optimal funding solutions for clients
•    To provide sufficient support to promote cross border trade across all other SME markets

Processes
•    Ensure that the relevant Trade products are enabled for SME Banking (through respective PPGs) after assessing client needs and appropriateness, and taking into account the risks and mitigants for each product and variant
•    Develop a regular operating rhythm with CIB counterparts and key SME Banking markets for effective strategy implementation
•    Ensure sales and governance processes across TWC markets are in line with strategic intent as well as approved policies and procedures

People & Talent
•    Drive the development and execution of the overall SME Banking Learning agenda for Trade products
•    Upgrade Trade product expertise capabilities within SME markets
•    Share best practices, Trade Mandate win announcement, lessons learnt across SME markets

Risk Management
•    Understand the risk associated with various products and variants and ensure suitability for SME clients and staff 
•    Ensure that the infrastructure, processes, policies and control framework in SME is designed to appropriately and adequately manage the inherent risks in the product, keeping in mind that risk has multiple facets and goes beyond credit risk (e.g. operational risk, fraud risk, counterparty risk etc.)
•    Work closely with Risk and other 2LOD partners to increase awareness and drive the right risk culture and mindset in the SME organization

Governance
•    Ensure that the overall risk and control framework in SME for Trade products is fit-for-purpose and working well
•    Understand the regulatory and legal framework governing trade products
•    Design programs, products and solutions in compliance with both internal and external policies and frameworks
•    Work closely with Transaction Banking colleagues on product development specifically to suit SME requirements and participate in the Trade Process Governance Committee to represent SME interests

 

Regulatory & Business Conduct
•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
•    Lead the Trade agenda for SME Banking to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles
•    Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

•    PPG owners, Transaction Banking and his/her Leadership Team
•    Channels and other product partners, including WM/CMPS where required (e.g. TBFX)
•    SME and ME/TWC Country Heads
•    Product/segment Heads in SME markets 
•    Learning and Development teams
•    Data, Digital and Analytics teams
•    Legal, Audit and Compliance, where relevant
•    Trade Operations & Trade Middle Office including Receivables Services Middle Office (“RSMO”)

Other Responsibilities
•    Embed Here for Good and the Group’s brand and values in the business
•    Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Region, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures
•    Work effectively across SCB, using values behaviours to drive overall business growth

Our Ideal Candidate

•    Minimum 8 years of experience in managing trade deals related roles in Business Banking and/or Medium Enterprise client segments.
•    A team player, eager to support and learn, and can foster collaborative working relationships across the organization.
•    Demonstrate strong business understanding, credit risk analysis and vast experience in Trade Finance solutions including Receivables Purchase.
•    Strong understanding of relevant trade management systems within the Bank, especially trade digitalization.
•    Adequate knowledge of client documentation.
•    Strong communication skills and stakeholder management. 
•    Well versed with local banking rules, regulations, UCP, URDG, ISP, Incoterm guidelines are preferred.
•    Candidate with strong Receivables Purchase experience including its end-to-end booking process & prior Receivables Purchase commercialization experience will be an added advantage.
•    Candidate with working experience in Trade Operations or Trade Middle Office will be an added advantage.

Role Specific Technical Competencies
•    Deep understanding of Trade products
•    Risk mindset with an understanding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework
•    Exposure to SME/mid-market clients and their unique requirements is desirable, but not mandatory 
•    Appreciation for market specific nuances
