JOB SUMMARY

  • This role is to lead COO T&O and CIO ISD (Information, Security & Data) as the Head of Strategy and Business Management. The role is to support the COO & CIO ISD Management Team by providing critical analysis and insight into the strategy, performance and risk profile of the function.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Awareness and understanding of the Group’s business strategy and T&O Strategy
  • Support development of strategy work for T&O Organization in close alignment with technology architecture and operations.
  • Location strategy. Working with GBS and T&I Senior Management to bring transparency and visibility on individual location strategies.

Business

  • Responsible for the delivery and execution of the COO & CIO(ISD) Strategy along with the associated organisational factors such as headcount and location strategy. 
  • Ensuring appropriate financial planning, governance and controls are in place to ensure benefits from investments are delivered as per plan. Requires collaboration with the broader business organisation as well as other COO, CIO and Functions in the organisation.
  • Partner with T&O Finance to ensure that the portfolio is run within the guidelines of the Bank and participate as needed in audit reviews – internal and external.
  • Proactively review and challenge the quality of the financial discipline across T&O.
  • Work with Communications team to design and execute a communications strategy for COO & CIO(ISD) which includes organising and curating the content for townhalls and onsites as appropriate.

 

Processes

  • Use data analytics to analyse findings and create suggestions/insights for strategic and operational improvements and changes
  • Communicate with internal business or function T&O responsible to understand the “change” needs of their departments and/or the T&I organisation
  • Work with stakeholders to investigate and feedback need for change. Define initiatives and conceptualise how they can be structured.
  • Gain buy-in, usually from senior management, of the best method of introducing the recommendations to the organisation.

People & Talent

  • Support the COO T&O, CIO(ISD) on review of department structure, Financial review, capacity plans and other HR related activities.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people (in line with the T&O location strategy), with succession planning for critical roles. 
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people. Ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles (such that the team is skilled and experienced to deliver its obligations and to meet the challenges of the future) ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports, allocating appropriate responsibility, accountability, and authority. Segregate duties to minimise operational risk. Provide feedback and rewards to direct reports in line with their performance against their responsibilities and objectives.

Risk Management

  • Maintains a comprehensive insight into the current and emerging risk profile.
  • Evaluates the appropriateness of the organization’s frameworks for governance, risk and control
  • Contributes to the development of risk-oriented culture within the organization
  • When processes change ensures controls and monitors are fit for purpose and redesign where necessary
  • Supports timely and quality execution of governance and control changes as and when required

 

Governance

  • Governance of T&O COO & CIO(ISD) headcount hiring, reporting standards and tools to attain a common view on Organization.
  • Provide the executives of T&O COO & CIO (ISD) team with useful, accurate, and timely views and analysis of the Organization growth/reductions visibility and probable trajectory
  • Work with Finance and HR to ensure the headcount data is aligned with Corporate plans and other needs such as for Property planning
  • Run Group initiated Organization efficiency and effectiveness related programs for T&I, identifying, consolidating, and reporting to relevant Project Steering Committees offshoring or right-shoring potentials, in alignment with Senior T&I stakeholders
  • Work with GBS counterparts to plan migration initiatives in alignment with the send side
  • Continuously improve the way we manage T&O reporting in the Bank measurable and trackable.  Be the SPOC for Group FP&A on submissions and queries. 
  • T&O Lead for Strategic HR Initiatives 
  • Manage and control COO T&O & CIO(ISD) headcount, budget and expense.
  • Support the development and execution of the T&O Business Efficiency and Performance metrics

  • Facilitate collaboration, networking and alignment within and across teams. Build alliances and reach consensus across senior stakeholders. Deepen business/function’s stakeholder relationships, including (but not limited to): T&I MT;  Finance, HR, Supply Chain Management

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in building and maintaining programs within a bank
  • Strong financial management background in a COO or Business Management role
  • Significant experience working in/running Innovation and Change within a complex organisation (ideally Standard Chartered Bank or equivalent external experience)
  • Experience of running a COO and technology delivery team ideally within banking
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effectively, both spoken and in written
  • Collaborative and creative problem solver, while being outcome focused
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows and excellent attention to details
  • Comfortable working in a relatively unstructured and multi-cultural environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher).
