JOB SUMMARY

The Head of the CIB Strategic Partnership Unit will lead the centralized strategic partnerships hub for the CIB business as a central advisory and governance hub.

Acting as a trusted advisor to Transaction Banking, Global Markets, Global Banking, Research, SFR, CPM, FSS, the role holder will provide strategic challenge, expert input and governance oversight to ensure partnerships are aligned with CIB's strategic objectives, managed within a consistent framework, and deliver measurable value.
 
The role is designed to enable product and business owners to originate and manage partnerships more effectively by providing:
•    Centralized governance and investment oversight
•    Frameworks, playbooks and best practices
•    Risk, compliance and legal guidance coordination
•    Cross-business opportunity sharing and capability building

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Business, Processes

Strategic Partnership Advisory / Origination
•    Act as the CIB-wide center of expertise for partnership strategy, supporting product and coverage teams in identifying, structuring and evaluating opportunities.
•    Provide independent challenge and guidance to ensure partnership proposals align with the CIB "partner vs build vs buy" framework
•    Help businesses assess partnership archetypes (alliances, JVs, technology partners, equity investments, suppliers, channel partners etc).

Performance Management & Reporting
•        Standardise KPIs and metrics to measure partnership success, including commercial, strategic and operational benefits.
•        Oversee portfolio-level tracking and performance reporting for senior CIB management and Group committees.
•        provide feedback loops to improve partnership structures, contracts and governance processes
 
Cross Pollination and Knowledge Sharing
•        Facilitate cross business sharing of partnership opportunities, insights and innovations
•        Maintain the CIB Partnership Playbook with case studies, market insights, negotiation guide and legal templates.

People & Talent
•    Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of experts: Build and nurture a high-performing team with a collaborative and innovative work environment.
•    Cultivate a forward-looking mindset: Encourage team members to stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation as well as opportunities to augment capabilities to CIB through partnership.
•    Encourage a culture of collaboration: Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture that aligns with the bank’s values and strategic priorities.
•    Promote continuous learning: Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
•    Optimise capacity and team structure: Responsible to review team structure/capacity plans.
•    Continuous performance management: Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.

Governance and Risk Management

•        Governance and Investment Oversight
•        own and maintain the CIB Partnership Governance Framework, ensuring consistent processes across all business lines
•        Chair or coordinate partnership review forums to assess, approve and monitor initiatives led by the CIB businesses.
•        Provide investment governance, including business case validation, budget approval recommendations, and benefit tracking.
 
Risk and Compliance Coordination
•        Ensure early engagement of risk, compliance, legal and finance stakeholders in all partnership assessments.
•        Maintain CIB's partnership risk policy and onboarding standards, supporting CIB businesses in due diligence processes.
•        Act as the escalation point for partnership-related regulatory or reputational risks.

•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Our Ideal Candidate
•    Proven extensive and recent experience in new business creation, business model innovation, strategic partnerships, marketing, and/or consulting experience in large firms and start-ups
•    A strong understanding and experience Banking especially in Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) businesses e.g. Global Markets, Transaction Banking, Global Banking, Client Coverage, Securities Services etc.
•    Proven track record in thought-leadership and proven experience in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships at the most senior levels
•    Demonstrable global leadership experience and preferably with experience of board level supervision and oversight.
•    Recognised understanding of change and governance processes and controls.
•    Ability to conceptualize and strategize product innovations on Exec level
•    Self-starter, able to handle multiple competing priorities and operate successfully in a lean, fast-paced organization
