Job Summary
We are a climate technology startup focused on enabling green financing and the voluntary carbon market. Backed by SCVentures and collaborating with key players like Engie, we develop innovative digital solutions to streamline processes for carbon credit projects, with a mission to empower project owners, financiers, and other stakeholders in sustainability.
As part of our growing team, you will have the unique opportunity to participate in the development of a digital platform designed to develop and finance carbon credit projects. This role will contribute to scaling climate action in critical geographies for global carbon markets.
Role Overview
As the Head of Technology, you will lead the design and execution of Qatalyst’s technology vision. You will oversee the development of AI-powered products, scalable infrastructure, and secure digital platforms that underpin our carbon intelligence solutions. This includes leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools to automate, enhance, and scale workflows related to project assessment, due diligence, risk analysis, and more.
We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on technology leader with deep technical experience, startup grit, and a passion for climate innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership
- Develop and own the end-to-end technology strategy aligned with product and business objectives.
- Collaborate with the executive team to shape technical direction, AI strategy, and roadmap planning.
- Champion a culture of innovation, rapid iteration, and technical excellence.
AI, LLMs & Automation
- Design and lead the development of LLM-powered tools to automate project evaluation, documentation analysis, risk scoring, and user interaction.
- Oversee integration of proprietary and open-source LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Claude, Mistral) into platform features (e.g., smart assistants, document summarization, compliance checking).
- Build scalable AI infrastructure to support inference, training, prompt engineering, and API integration.
Skills and Experience
Product & Platform Development
- Architect scalable, secure backend systems to support carbon project onboarding, market access, and data tracking.
- Manage development of APIs, data pipelines, and integrations with registries, satellite data, MRV tools, and climate datasets.
- Ensure seamless user experiences across developer, buyer, and auditor interfaces.
Team Management & Delivery
- Recruit, manage, and mentor top-tier engineering, AI/ML, and DevOps talent.
- Set KPIs and deliver high-quality, on-time product releases across multiple agile teams.
- Balance technical debt, security, and feature velocity in a fast-paced environment.
Security, Infrastructure & Compliance
- Ensure best practices in cloud infrastructure, security, data privacy, and compliance with relevant standards (e.g. ISO, SOC2, carbon certification bodies).
- Lead decisions on build-vs-buy, tech stack, and infrastructure scaling.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in tech leadership roles
- Mastery in writing and reviewing codes
- Overseeing scrum teams and engineers
- Ability to wear multiple hats such as individual contributor, team lead, solution architect, facilitator.
- Knowledge of mainstream cloud provider (AWS / firebase) and elastic infrastructure.
- Expert background in Javascript/Typescript technology stack, NodeJS, Next.js and Nest JS, distributed systems, authentication mechanisms, asynchronous event processing, message queues, and architecture patterns.
- Knowledgeable on modern object orientated programming practices including entity frameworks, dynamic reflection, and reusable interfaces.
- Familiarity with 3rd party system integrations via API
- Familiar with OWASP, secure by design, secure coding practices, code scanning, unit testing, dependency management (deprecation, vulnerabilities, licensing)
- Familiarity with DevOps, Infrastructure including integration, delivery, deployment and assurance.
- Experience in front-end React and JavaScript/Typescript presentation frameworks
- Experience with operating highly-available production financial systems
- Familiarity with SQL & NoSQL databases, DNS, service discovery, and related infrastructure components
- Hands-on experience building or integrating LLM- or AI-powered systems.
- Deep understanding of LLM APIs, vector databases (e.g. Pinecone, Weaviate), embeddings, prompt engineering, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).
- Strong backend and infrastructure experience (e.g., Python, Node.js, Postgres, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with geospatial data, carbon MRV systems, or environmental data is a strong plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and product-oriented mindset.
