Title: Head of Engineering, SC Ventures

JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Lead to join our team. This role is critical in shaping and delivering technical solutions across our ventures. Working alongside our Architecture team, Risk and Enablement team, and Platform Operations, you will lead a team of engineers, and collaborate with external delivery partners and contractors to support our venture teams with their implementations. This role will also support our SCV platform team with technology / engineering expertise to ensure we have appropriate tools and applications available to support our business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including venture teams, technology team peers and senior leadership, to ensure technical solutions are aligned with business goals and meet technology and ICS governance requirements.
Business
• Negotiate contracts and engagement terms with vendors, ensuring delivery expectations, service levels, and financials are clearly defined and maintained.
• Manage relationships and oversee delivery quality from partner delivery vendors, ensuring effective onboarding, delivery performance tracking, and alignment to venture and platform outcomes.
• Provide oversight of vendor performance, including resource allocation, delivery velocity, quality assurance, and issue resolution.
• Plan and oversee delivery of technical solutions for ventures and SCV platform
• Delivery proof-of-concept (PoC) engineering activities using internal and external resources to validate emerging technologies and business opportunities.
• Oversee a small group of fractional CTOs supporting specific ventures to ensure they are following expected methodologies and delivering expected outcomes. When required work as a fractional CTO on ventures in early stages of the venture building lifecycle.
Processes
• Oversee the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions against business requirements, architectural designs and platform strategies, while adhering to organisational SDLC and orchestration requirements, and aligning to Technology and Information and Cyber Security (ICS) governance expectations.
People & Talent
• Lead and mentor a small in-house engineering team to plan and deliver solutions for ventures in the areas of UX/UI, frontend, and backend, AI/ML, Blockchain, Web3, cloud engineering, and DevSecOps
• Be up to date technically and able to engage hands-on in development if required, especially during early-stage builds and/or PoC initiatives.
Risk Management and Governance
Working within the SCV Enterprise Risk Management Framework , ensure solutions are delivered to be compliant with SCV Technology and ICS governance requirements and within SCV Risk Appetite.
Proactively assess and prioritize activities considering the risk and potential impact. Communicate assumptions and decisions made in solution delivery that may have impact to Technology and ICS risk.

Our Ideal Candidate
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of relevant technical experience, with at least 7+ years in a team leadership role.
• Experience working across multiple ventures or product lines simultaneously
Role Specific Technical Competencies
• Experience in leading engineering teams across full stack development including frontend, backend, and UI/UX disciplines
• Delivery of solutions using emerging technologies such blockchain, Web3, AI/ML and use of AI assisted solution enablement and delivery tools
• Experience managing and negotiating with third-party vendors, including contract and SLA negotiation
• Experience overseeing offshore vendor teams, ensuring alignment, delivery velocity, and consistent quality.
• Hands-on development expertise
• Experience with venture building or startup environments
• Understanding of solution architecture, modern development practices, and cloud platforms
• Communication and stakeholder management
• Experience working in an agile, fast-paced environment
