Job Summary
The role leads the Investors & Strategic Partners agenda. It brings together capital raising, major external relationships and selected firm-wide priorities.
The role works across SC Ventures, its portfolio companies and Standard Chartered. It is accountable for moving important issues forward, raising external capital for the portfolio and developing relationships that produce investment, client and commercial opportunities.
Business Strategy
• Advise the CEO on business strategy, portfolio priorities, organisation and key external matters.
• Lead priorities that cut across ventures, functions or geographies, particularly where there is no single natural owner.
• Prepare the CEO for strategic internal and external engagements and represent the CEO where appropriate.
• Work with venture CEOs and senior Bank colleagues on key strategic initiatives.
Fundraising and capital formation
• Lead external capital raising for relevant SC Ventures portfolio companies.
• Agree the fundraising strategy with venture CEOs, including capital required, investor proposition, valuation considerations and timing.
• Build and maintain relationships with institutional investors, venture capital firms, strategic investors and other sources of capital.
• Lead senior investor discussions and help venture teams manage the process from initial targeting through diligence, negotiation and closing.
• Maintain a portfolio-wide view of capital needs, investor appetite and potential financing options, and advise the CEO accordingly.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic partnerships
• Develop senior relationships with financial institutions, technology companies, fintech and digital-asset firms, and other partners relevant to the portfolio.
• Identify and progress opportunities across distribution, infrastructure, client access, market entry and product collaboration.
• Bring together the right venture and Bank teams around each opportunity, working with CIB coverage where the relationship or opportunity overlaps with a broader Standard Chartered client.
Strategic clients and account management
• Act as the SC Ventures relationship lead for a small number of priority clients and partners where there are multiple points of engagement or significant long-term value.
• Run these relationships on an account-management basis, with a clear account plan, opportunity pipeline, senior engagement plan and regular follow-up.
• Coordinate activity across SC Ventures, portfolio companies and the Bank so the client receives a joined-up approach and opportunities do not sit in separate teams.
• Where a relationship is covered by CIB, agree roles and client engagement with the relevant coverage team and develop opportunities jointly.
• Use these relationships to open opportunities for portfolio companies and, where relevant, bring SC Ventures capabilities into the wider Bank relationship.
Marketing and communications
• Provide senior oversight of SC Ventures’ marketing and communications priorities.
• Ensure external positioning supports the business, investor and partnership agenda.
• Guide major announcements, events and thought leadership involving the CEO or portfolio companies.
People and Talent
• Set direction and drive high performance by translating strategy into clear direction, aligning individual goals to team outcomes and providing regular, constructive feedback.
• Develop talent and capability through coaching and career conversations that build critical skills, stretch potential and prepare individuals for future opportunities.
• Lead by example by role-modelling the Bank’s valued behaviours, upholding strong risk and conduct standards, exercising sound judgment, and creating an inclusive team culture that supports wellbeing, values diverse perspectives, and drives accountability.
