Job Description: 

Job Summary

  • Provide legal counsel to Cash Product Managers relating to the Bank’s Digital Currencies Programme and other Cash matters, including tokenized deposits and stablecoin payout / pay-in services.
  • Proactively engage Cash Product Managers to discuss new product initiatives and expansion into new geographies; ensure that legal and product-specific risks and issues are identified and appropriately addressed/mitigated.
  • Develop appropriate legal templates for agreements with clients and service providers, with adequate protections and remedies to address the requirements and considerations set out in the product governance documents and Legal Department DOIs.
  • Provide legal support and advice at Group level (multi-regional implementation) in the review and negotiation of legal documentation with clients and service providers.
  • Provide guidance and advice to other colleagues in the Legal function as subject matter expert on Cash matters.
  • This is a Direct contract role for 6 months

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
•    Work with other members of the Cash Legal team on the management of Cash related legal matters.
•    Provide legal advice, guidance and support to stakeholders across the Group on Cash related matters.
•    Develop a keen sense in identifying potential risks and issues. 
•    Display excellent role modelling regarding good conduct and a collaborative team spirit.

Business
•    Be part of a specialist legal team providing Cash related legal advice to the Group and regional teams.
•    Ensure that external legal costs are incurred for Cash matters only where necessary and the amount is reasonable.

Processes
•    Develop and maintain Cash Legal templates and documentation checklists.
•    Provide legal advice and support in the review and negotiation of legal documentation with clients and service providers, to ensure that legal and regulatory requirements, the Bank’s policies and minimum legal documentation standards, and product requirements are complied with.

People & Talent
•    Develop and deliver effective functional training for legal, product and business colleagues.

Risk Management
•    Provide Legal’s advice and input on Cash services and transactions, to ensure that legal and other risks/issues are identified, considered and appropriately addressed /mitigated.
•    Collaborate with other risk and control functions, including CFCR, Credit, Ops Risk and Tax, to assess and address risks relating to Cash matters.

Governance
•    Have an awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates and the regulatory requirements and expectations applicable to Cash services.
•    Keep abreast of developments in the law which impact Cash services, and provide feedback and advice to the relevant stakeholders as required.

•    Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct. 
•    Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Our Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Lawyer in a common law jurisdiction with 8 plus years as Post Qualified Experience
  • Strong analytical and legal reasoning skills.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts of contract law.
  • Experience in general banking and cash management services (e.g. bank accounts, payments, collections and clearing) preferred.
  • Motivated team player.
  • Direct Contract Duration – 6 months
