Job Summary

Senior Credit Risk Manager for SME Small Business Lending (SBL) is responsible for the development, governance, and oversight of credit risk strategies, portfolio management frameworks, and credit policies to ensure sustainable business growth within the Bank's approved risk appetite.

The role acts as a key partner to Business, Operations, Product, and other Risk functions in balancing portfolio growth, profitability, and credit quality while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk governance standards.  

The incumbent will drive portfolio performance monitoring, credit underwriting policy enhancements, credit risk analytics, governance oversight, and risk management initiatives across the SME Small Business Lending portfolio, while promoting a strong risk culture and maintaining the integrity of risk-return decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Proactive development and improvement to credit policy management to support and influence Business to maintain portfolio risk appetite within acceptable norms
  • Monitor portfolio quality and ensure delinquency and losses are within targets by implementing appropriate credit/ portfolio safeguards
  • Embed risk appetite framework in policy decision making clearly outlining the potential risk and rewards

Business

  • Work closely with Business to optimize business profitability and volumes with a balanced credit quality.
  • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates

Processes

  • Review & provide feedback to management/ Group Risk to ensure practicality & feasibility for the implementation of a robust credit policy
  • Continual review, streamline and improve operational procedures and working closely with the various teams to optimise the use of the approval systems and ensure smooth implementation of any policy changes.
  • Provide guidance to Credit Initiation Approvers and Analysts in credit evaluation
  • Advise Business and Credit Operations on credit related and loan documentation issues.

People & Talent

  • Support CCH, Line manager and others in the team on CRM activities, ad-hoc projects, strategic initiatives and exercises aimed at improving or enhancing the team’s activities.
  • Attend relevant trainings to ensure suitably skilled and qualified for the role.

Risk Management

  • Assess the credit risk profile of the SME Small Business Lending (SBL) clients’ business and maintain alignment with risk appetite by rebalancing of risks and controls in response to internal and external factors.
  • Uphold the integrity of risk/ return decisions by challenging Business to demonstrate that risk origination and control decisions are properly informed and consistent with strategy and risk appetite.
  • Ensure credit policies & guidelines are consistently applied and adhered.
  • Work closely with Risk Reporting Singapore Delivery (“RRSD”) team to track portfolio thresholds and monitor any breaches so that corrective/ preventive actions can be taken timely.
  • Validate MIS data to ensure robust MIS data quality, and integrity of statistics and MIS.
  • Act as the Credit Risk control owner under the Group’s Risk Management Framework (including relevant Operational Risk Framework ownership for credit risk). Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment in area of responsibility.

  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Group Policy and Standards, local laws and regulations, and controls and procedures of the Bank.

  • Perform other responsibilities assigned by line managers from time to time.
  • Conduct update sessions with Credit Initiation team / Credit Approvers to ensure they are in full understanding of credit policies, and/or advise on changes/ clarifications.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 10+ years of experience in banking or financial services, preferably with expertise in Business Banking / SME lending.
  • The ideal candidate should commercially minded and strategic Credit Risk professional 
  •  Experience in advanced analytics, programming, and data visualization tools such as SAS, SQL, QlikView, Tableau, and VBA etc is preferred.  
  • The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Accountancy, Mathematics, or a related discipline, and combines it with strong analytical capability, sound risk judgment, and effective stakeholder management skills to influence business decisions and drive portfolio outcomes.
  • The candidate should be confident engaging senior stakeholders, providing constructive challenge, and lead risk initiatives independently.
