Job Summary

The Corporate & Institutional Banking Channels Technology team within the Corporate and Institutional of Standard Chartered Bank is responsible for our digital customer experiences and interactions. The team delivers the core customer facing channels and distribution platform across all SCB business pillars and own / operate key customer data and process management platforms covering customer reference data, relationship management, analytics, marketing, research, on-boarding, and due diligence / transaction monitoring. The team is at the heart of SCB’s journey to improve our customer experience and increase the value derived from our interactions and data. 

The business analyst role has been created to support the flagship and innovative Channels platform – Straight2Bank. 

 

A business analyst (BA) is responsible for identifying the actions required to improve the operation of business systems (process and IT). The BA has ownership for understanding the business needs, identifying business solutions and validating the pros and cons of business and technical solution options and design.  Directed by the Programme Manager, the BA owns the given issue from requirements definition through to successful delivery. Key business analyst responsibilities include representing the business customer, requirements gathering and documentation, business process re-design (process, services, organisation etc.), and defining the relevant acceptance criteria.

Key Responsibilities

BAs are responsible for defining scope, analysing and developing process, data and analytical models, eliciting and documenting requirements, identifying solutions and verifying that they meet requirements and supporting development activities.
•    Work with the business users and capture business requirements accurately, comprehensively and without ambiguity, facilitate traceability and in harmony with existing Straight2Bank functionalities
•    Focus on building the FX components on the S2B Nextgen platform and focus on integration across other systems which could be across the bank. 
•    Requirements Analysis and Design Definition:  Needs to have a good "eye-for-detail" and describe the tasks used to organize requirements, specify and model requirements and designs, validate and verify information, identify solution options, and estimate the potential value that could be realized.
•    Solution Evaluation: Should be able to describe the tasks used to assess the performance of and value delivered by a solution and to recommend improvements on increasing values in the functions.
•    Hands-on experience in requirements life cycle management in banking and financial domain. Should be able to manage requirements from inception to implementation.
•    Well-versed in elicitation and multi-team collaboration at global level.  Highly skilled in defining the scope as well as describing the tasks related to the scope.
•    Co-ordinate amongst internal and business stakeholders to review and obtain business signoff for the project cost, plan, specifications etc
•    Ensure gaps in deliverables are identified early and addressed effectively
•    Strategy Analysis and Stakeholder Management – Candidate to posses’ skills to identify the business needs, address those needs, and align the change strategy with the Bank.
•    Should be well-experienced in Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, and independently describe the tasks used to organize and coordinate business analysis efforts.
•    Over-see and steer time, cost, and quality of over-all solutions. Work with delivery and project services organizations as well as other technology and vendor organizations in ensuring requirements are transformed into effective solutions with-in cost, schedule and quality - adhering to the bank’s standards, guide-lines and policies
•    Involve in high level technical design / implementation discussions and contribute
•    Assist development, testing and support teams by providing them business focus and ensure issues are thoroughly analysed and taken to closure

•    Stakeholder Delivery:  Build effective relationships with stakeholders, both directly and via the project team, to ensure timely delivery of solutions which support the business
•    Form and maintain key relationships of mutual trust and respect, which fosters a climate of collaboration around project delivery
•    Ensure proposed solutions meet the needs of the business / business requirements, and will deliver appropriate outcomes

Business

•    Strategic Planning: Communicate the vision, scope and business case for the project as defined by the project manager and signed off by all stakeholders.  The BA should be able to link the business case and strategy to their subsequent business analysis and design deliverables
•    Ensure solutions are aligned with meeting the Bank’s strategic goals and architectural vision, or gain explicit approval for non-compliance
•    Provide support to the project manager to ensure engagement with stakeholders to track and deliver benefits
•    Use a structured process for data gathering and analysis to specify key dimensions of the problem and determine root cause
•    Elicit and analyse the business requirements from all stakeholders (and, where relevant, understand and incorporate requirements originating from the other key related projects / programmes / change activities)
•    Produce the business requirements document ensuring all requirements (functional and non-functional) are unambiguous, feasible, traceable and solution-free
•    Where business process re-engineering is required, develop current and to-be process and data models
•    Challenge business around requirements and solutions – provide insight into alternative methods for resolving business problems, and bringing external / industry experience and insight to offer alternatives.

•    Identify possible solutions, verify that these meet the requirements and communicate recommendations to stakeholders to facilitate decision making
•    Provide assistance, if required, to the project / programme manager with conducting the vendor selection process
•    Produce the functional specification for the development team, using standard tools (JIRA) and techniques e.g. use cases, flow diagrams, logical data model
•    Ensure stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle of the project by using effective and targeted communications
•    Continuous Improvement of BA standards: Be aware of and follow Markets Business Analysis practices and processes. Evaluate them and contribute to making them more robust and effective.

•    Risk Culture: Demonstrate appropriate business and risk aware behaviours – ensure projects RAID logs are actively reported, managed, and escalated & managed in conjunction with risk policies.  To be able to identify risks, assess and quantify their impact, and develop actions or plans that mitigate those risks manifesting themselves

Skills and Experience

•    Bachelors / Masters in from Information Technology, Engineering or Business Administration with seven to ten years in the financial services banking industry as a IT business analyst; Specific business analysis related qualification (e.g. CBAP, BCS) is desirable.
•    Preferable to have at least four to five years of experience in channels domain in the Transaction Banking (TB) space with focus on payments.
•    End to end working knowledge in Transaction Banking / Channels areas
•    Experience in working in intercultural teams 
•    Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including facilitation techniques
•    A motivated individual with a great sense of responsibility
•    A work ethic of dependability through punctuality, flexibility, and adaptability to perform as an efficient, detail-oriented team player
•    Documentation and technical authorship

•    Good understanding of the agile development methodologies
•    Good understanding of front to back system architecture – Payment’s lifecycles

Role Specific Technical Competencies

•    Knowledge on payments, collections, direct debits, bulk file processing and transaction banking
•    Experience in industry standard file formats such as SWIFT (1XX, 2XX, 9XX) messages, ISOXML 20022, EDIFACT, PAYMUL, CREMUL, BAI etc.
•    Payments or transaction banking
•    Business architecture principles and methods
•    Basic SQL knowledge to query data base and familiarity with Oracle DB concepts    
•    MS-Office Suite including MS Project and MS Visio
•    Project lifecycle and project management support
