Job Summary
This position can be based in GBS India, GBS Kuala Lumpur, and GBS Poland.
Assurance is a Second Line of Defence function established under a delegated Mandate from the Group Chief Risk Officer. The primary role of Assurance is to provide a risk-based independent view to Senior Management in the business/functions, Second Line and the Board as to the effectiveness of the Bank’s policies, processes, systems and controls. It facilitates identification of gaps and inefficiencies, enabling prompt corrective action to be taken, and is a key source of evidence for the Board and regulators.
The Director, Credit Risk and ESGR Assurance reports into the Head, Credit Risk and ESGR Assurance Lead (within Financial Risk Assurance). The role supports conducting re-testing of controls across Credit Risk and ESGR processes to check if controls are working as expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Credit Risk and ESGR Assurance in delivering a strategy for risk-based and data-enabled assurance coverage across Credit Risk and ESGR, aligned to the Bank’s risk profile, regulatory expectations and internal commitments.
- Support the agenda to drive a culture of continuous improvement in assurance delivery, including consistent methodology application, strong documentation and evidence standards, and timely reporting and escalation.
- Provide support on the delivery of the assurance plan and book of work to ensure alignment to Credit Risk and ESGR priorities.
- Maintain a strong quality culture across planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue validation.
- Maintain strong awareness of Credit Risk and ESGR regulatory expectations, internal policies/standards, and leading practices in risk management, control testing and assurance.
- Work closely with teams across the three Lines of Defence, building strong working relationships and engaging with 1LoD testing teams and Risk owners.
- Retesting of controls to support the assessment on both design and operating effectiveness across key Credit Risk and ESGR processes.
- Support the delivery of a dynamic plan that focuses assurance activity on areas of highest risk and greatest potential impact, including thematic work across geographies where appropriate.
- Communicate issues and testing insights clearly to senior stakeholders as required, including through concise reporting, escalation and remediation validation.
- Promote and embed a culture of openness, trust and risk awareness, where ethical, legal, regulatory and policy compliant conduct is the norm.
- Provide support on the delivery of the Credit Risk and ESGR Assurance mandate.
- Escalate matters requiring immediate attention directly to line management as required.
- Provide support to prepare reports to relevant Group and Business risk and control committees and management group on key risks and issues.
Skills and Experience
- 10–12 years’ experience in the banking industry, including proven success in a similar role with exposure across a broad range of risk areas.
- Strong knowledge of assurance frameworks, risk management and control testing within a Risk and Compliance function in a banking environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences and senior stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across countries, regions, businesses and group functions in a dynamic, matrix environment.
- Demonstrated drive and ownership, with high levels of integrity, independence and professionalism.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver clear, structured and impactful messages to stakeholders.
- Well-rounded professional with strong overall knowledge of banking risks, assurance practices and regulatory expectations.
