The Quality Assurance and Improvement (QAI) function sits at the heart of our Professional Services Team, driving excellence and continuous improvement across all 2nd Line Assurance Activities. This role is responsible for assessing and enhancing the quality of our assurance work ensuring that activities are executed to the highest standards and aligned to the function’s principles based methodology, industry practices and regulatory expectations.

 

Accountable for the quality assurance outcomes across the 2nd line Assurance portfolio, you will aid in the delivery of a quantitative and qualitative quality assurance program, supported by solution oriented improvement plans. A critical mandate of the position is to support in the continuous refinement of existing approaches, methods and toolkits to ensure that they remain innovative and actively support the integration of the “One Assurance” framework across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of the Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) strategy for 2nd Line Assurance Function Globally.
  • Assist in embedding the unified “One Assurance” reliance model across the lines of defence, ensuring review teams consistently apply the principles based methodology and meet the reliance standards.
  • Actively contribute to the transition of the function toward our modern, principles based assurance methodology.
  • Support the function’s digital strategy by leveraging analytics and automation where possible to increase efficiency, depth and coverage.
  • Maintain an awareness of the bank’s footprint, strategic priorities and the external landscape to appropriately contextualise quality reviews.
  • Ensure that the QAIP activities provide value adding, actionable insights to the function by enhancing effectiveness, efficiency, excellence and commercial awareness in 2nd Line Assurance activities.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with the 2nd Line Assurance Review teams, acting as a trusted advisor on methodology applications and scoping of risk.
  • Executes a valued, quantative and qualatitive program of quality assurance on identified material 2nd line assurance entire lifecycle (Planning, Scoping, Execution and Reporting).
  • Assess the accuracy, depth and appropriateness of assurance documentation in accordance with the established principles based methodology and other applicable expectations.
  • Identify and clearly document thematic gaps, root causes and process improvement opportunities from QAI reviews, and support in the development of solution oriented improvement plans.
  • Obtain confirmation of the remediation of identified quality issues.
  • Guide and support the assurance review teams providing clear, constructive and detailed feedback to ensure deliverables consistently meet the quality standards and timelines.
  • Support targeted training initiatives and coaching to address methodology related gaps or thematic trends identified from QAI reviews.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of continuous learning, high performance and uncompromising quality within the Professional Services Team and the wider function.
  • Identify, assess and control mitigating risks to the 2nd Line Assurance function, through rigorous quality oversight.  
  • Take a proportionate approach to risk management, evaluating whether review teams are accurately assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls or the adequacy of frameworks.
  • Proactively highlight potential regulatory or conduct implications and risks identified during the QAI review process.
  • Prepare clear and timely reporting on QA review outcomes, thematic trends and the status of remediation efforts,
  • Assist in the design and implementation of department wide governance exercises including Annual Planning, QA planning and other applicable initiatives.
  • Monitor and follow up on actions to ensure timely remediation of QAI finding, escalating unresolved as required.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong assurance, regulatory inspection or audit experience in Risk, within a banking environment.
  • Substantial experience in the banking industry, including demonstrated success in a similar roles, including across a range of risk areas.
  • Experience in leading QAIP in audit/assurance.  
  • Experience in optimising processes, including via the use of technology.
  • Strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and personal authority based on trusted relationships.
  • Experienced in leading and motivating high performing teams.
  • Strategic vision for the function.
  • Excellent communicator, effective leader and manager of complex, highly matrixed organizations and the ability to explain complex risk terms in business language.
  • Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business, and group stakeholders
  • Strong drive, high levels of integrity, independence, and enthusiasm.
  • Strong expertise in data analytics, AI, automation, and technology risk management in banking.
  • Strong presentation skills and the overall knowledge, sound judgement and courage of conviction.
