Job Description:

Works alongside the Surveillance Data team to optimise how data quality is delivered and operated across the Trade and Market Surveillance estate, with a specific focus on the Cross Product Surveillance programme. The role supports the design and oversight of data controls, data onboarding, and data quality frameworks required to enable cross-product surveillance across increasingly complex, multi-asset and multi-venue datasets.

Acting as a subject matter expert, the role supports the Head of Surveillance Effectiveness & Data (and wider team) in defining clear business requirements for the redesign and execution of the future-state data quality control framework. The focus is on continuous improvement - identifying where data quality breaks down, streamlining control design and operation, and reducing control inefficiencies as coverage expands.

Operating with a project delivery mindset, the individual works closely with the Head of Surveillance Effectiveness & data (and wider teams) to translate strategic direction into execution - driving analysis, drafting requirements, and managing stakeholder follow-up ensuring that data quality controls are scalable, effective, and embedded across new and existing data feeds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and enhance data control frameworks to support Cross Product surveillance across multi-product and multi-venue datasets, ensuring controls are scalable and aligned to increasing data complexity.
  • Define and implement controls to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of surveillance data inputs, with a focus on reducing duplication and control inefficiencies.
  • Lead the redesign of data quality control frameworks, in collaboration with Data, Surveillance, and Technology teams, to support scale, standardisation, and sustainability across Cross Product datasets.
  • Establish structured approaches for data quality monitoring and issue detection, embedding these consistently across new and existing data feeds.
  • Partner with data teams to improve data quality at source, working with data owners and engineers to understand data production processes and identify root causes of issues.
  • Analyse data flows from upstream systems to downstream models to identify dependencies, control points, and risks, and document these in a structured, business-readable format.
  • Translate data requirements into executable data quality controls, including definition of data contracts, datasets, control logic, and monitoring thresholds.
  • Apply judgement in control selection, using data and product context to define a focused and meaningful control set and avoid control proliferation.
  • Draft functional requirements and data control specifications under the direction of the DQ Lead, ensuring alignment to end-to-end data dependencies and outcomes.
  • Optimise the data quality control lifecycle, identifying inefficiencies across check creation, detection, reporting, and operational processes, and proposing simplification opportunities.
  • Maintain the workstream delivery view on behalf of the DQ Lead, including tracking plans, dependencies, risks, and proactively escalating delivery issues.
  • Draft operational handover artefacts, including runbooks, triage processes, and control guidance, to support adoption by DQ Operations.
  • Support analysis of data quality issues, including identification of root causes and assessment of downstream impact on surveillance outputs.
  • Identify and document data risks, control gaps, and failure points across data flows, ensuring appropriate visibility and escalation.
  • Support implementation of controls to mitigate data-related operational and control risks.
  • Participate in working groups with Data, Surveillance, and DQ Operations to validate requirements and capture practical data challenges.
  • Support the DQ Lead in coordinating specialist review and validation, including facilitating SME workshops prior to control sign-off.
  • Support product-based data quality reporting and impact assessment, improving transparency of data issues and their linkage to downstream outcomes

Skills and Experience

  • 4 - 6 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, Solutions Analyst, or Data Analyst in financial markets, capital markets, or a trading-floor-adjacent environment.
  • Project-delivery mindset - comfortable taking an objective and working independently through analysis, drafting and stakeholder follow-up to a reviewable draft, rather than executing a detailed task list or running a steady-state process.
  • An eye for improvement - naturally looks for inefficiency, duplication, and manual effort in how data and controls are handled, and proposes simpler ways to do things.
  • Track record of producing clear, structured specifications and contributing ideas in collaborative design settings.
  • Strong SQL; comfortable reading and reasoning about schemas, primary keys, joins, and nullability.
  • Specifies data contracts and DQ controls fluently in structured form - what matters is the rigour of structured thinking.
  • Good delivery hygiene - keeps plans current, tracks dependencies, escalates blockers early; comfortable using JIRA / Confluence or equivalent.
  • Experience working closely with data, technology, and surveillance stakeholders, supporting data onboarding, control implementation, testing, and operationalisation.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with strong capability in producing clear and structured specifications as a primary output of the role.
  • Working knowledge of one or more asset classes (e.g. equities, FX, fixed income, OTC derivatives).
  • Experience within a trade surveillance or compliance function is advantageous but not required.
