Job Summary

Standard Chartered Bank is looking for Director, AML Tax. This exciting opportunity could be based in several countries like Poland, India, Malaysia, or the Philippines. The main focus of this role is to provide thorough support in managing policies and standards, ensuring their effective implementation, and overseeing the Anti-Tax Evasion framework, which covers both client and non-client tax evasion activities within the bank. Plus, the person in this role will get to share their expertise as a Tax Evasion subject matter expert (SME) to CFCR/Businesses and collaborate with various teams across the organization such as Group Tax. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Group's risk management framework is adequate for managing tax evasion risks.
  • Provide tax advisory services to CFCR areas and enhance the AML control framework across the Group (private bank, HNW segments, SMEs and corporate & investment bank)
  • Support the Group’s UK CCO framework by enhancing tax evasion risk assessments and prevention procedures.
  • Provide expertise on tax for strategic reviews of high-risk areas.
  • Develop communication and training programs for key functions and raise awareness of tax evasion risks.
  • Support transaction monitoring design principles and execution to facilitate effective identification and management of tax evasion risks.
  • Perform external risk assessment to anticipate emerging and horizon risks in key products and geographies.
  • Outreach to industry peers as well support a positive engagement with key regulators.
  • Lead by example to build a strong culture and value.

Skills and Experience

  • Experienced tax professional with at least 5+ years of exposure to tax advisory in the financial services sector or a Big 4 background
  • Solid grounding in International Tax principles and ability to apply these in a fast-paced financial services environment.
  • Legal and/or accounting qualifications are required, with a preference for an advanced degree in Tax.
  • Deep understanding of tax issues affecting banking products and their structures is mandatory.
  • Robust background in tax risk management and experience in implementing effective controls within global banking operations are also important.
  • Experience in financial crime compliance or related exposure is an advantage.
