Assurance is a Second line defence function established under a delegated Mandate from the Group Chief Risk Officer and the Group Head of Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance (CFCR). The primary role of Assurance is to provide a risk-based independent view to Senior Management in the business/functions, Second Line and the Board as to the effectiveness of the bank’s policies, processes, systems and controls. It facilitates identification of any gaps & inefficiencies, enabling prompt corrective action to be taken, and is a key source of evidence for the Board & Regulators. Assurance is part of the reasonable steps taken in support of SMF 4, 16 & 17 responsibilities.
The Director, CFCR Assurance role operates within a globally integrated and fungible operating model, working closely with others in the CFCR Assurance team to focus on delivery of Assurance reviews within the CFCR Assurance remit.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Co-Lead, CFCR Assurance in delivering a strategy for risk-based and data-enabled assurance coverage across CFCR Assurance, aligned to the Bank’s risk profile, regulatory expectations and internal commitments.
- Support the agenda to drive a collaborative risk and control ecosystem across the three Lines of Defence, including effective reliance and remediation tracking.
- Support the agenda to drive a culture of continuous improvement in assurance delivery, including consistent methodology application, strong documentation and evidence standards, and timely reporting and escalation.
- Provide support on the delivery of the assurance plan and book of work to ensure alignment to CFCR Assurance priorities.
- Maintain a strong quality culture across planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue validation.
- Maintain strong awareness of CFCR Assurance regulatory expectations, internal policies/standards, and leading practices in risk management, control testing and assurance.
- Work closely with teams across the three Lines of Defence, building good working relationships and engaging with 1LoD testing teams and Risk owners.
- Follow the Group’s policies and standards, including how we carry out assurance work, track issues, and keep documentation clear and consistent.
- Retesting of controls to support the assessment on both design and operating effectiveness across key processes
- Support the delivery of a dynamic plan that focuses assurance activity on areas of highest risk and greatest potential impact, including thematic work across geographies where appropriate.
- Communicate issues and testing insights clearly to senior stakeholders as required, including through concise reporting, escalation and remediation validation
Skills and Experience
- Strong assurance, risk and control testing, regulatory inspection within a banking environment.
- Substantial experience in the banking industry, including demonstrated success in a similar role, including across a range of risk areas.
- Experience in optimising processes, including via the use of technology.
- Strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and personal authority based on trusted relationships.
- Strategic vision for the function.
- Excellent communicator, effective leader and manager of complex, highly matrixed organizations and the ability to explain complex risk terms in business language.
- Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business, and group stakeholders
- Strong drive, high levels of integrity, independence, and enthusiasm.
- Strong expertise in data analytics, AI, automation, and technology risk management in banking.
- Strong presentation skills and the overall knowledge, sound judgement and courage of conviction.
- Experience in leading transformations in risk and control testing/audit/assurance (is an asset).
- Experienced in leading and motivating teams (is an asset).
