Short Description

 

The role is part of the SCB AG Finance department which is responsible for all financial and management reporting for the Continental Europe region (covering Germany, France, Sweden and Poland), including supporting the various business heads, the local CEOs and all the Group functions and business teams across our Global footprint to understand, manage and drive complex business and operations. This person will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of reporting and controls across Markets and Treasury products in accordance with policy guidelines and supporting on other products as needed.  Alongside the business responsibilities, the right candidate will provide continuous contributions towards improvements in processes, controls and documentation through implementation of new systems or automations, elimination of non-value-added work and streamlining of functional procedures.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with the business on new product development to build the product inventory – creating and updating the Local Product Programmes for Finance, including documenting the accounting treatment for new products under IFRS and HGB with input from the HGB Accounting and Reporting Lead as needed
  • Provide financial commentaries and analysis on business performance for CFO, Management Board and Supervisory board on both a monthly and ad hoc basis
  • Run local entity oversight of group product control (PC) team processes and with Expert-Valuation Control role expertise the associated valuation control (VC) team processes
  • Perform local requirements related to PC / VC processes, such as explaining Value at Risk backtesting results or trading P&L commentaries
  • Understand and document trade capture and risk systems and associated controls to assess downstream implications to P&L and balance sheet
  • Perform substantiation of balance based on reconciliations including identification of any risk
  • Regular interaction with the offshore team who produce reporting and key reconciliations
  • Analyses and resolves common and complex reconciliation problems including suspense and transaction processing to ledger reconciliations and clearance
  • Execute and have responsibility for controls over Transfer Pricing within the SCB group and reporting on Transfer Pricing outcomes
  • Hedge documentation review and approval
  • Perform testing for new trade types and user acceptance testing (UAT) for new systems
  • Respond to queries from various stakeholders related to Markets and Treasury products and support on amended Markets and Treasury product structures
  • Create and / or review and approve journals as needed
  • Support on the audit requests and other requests sent by regulators, internal and external auditors
  • Presentation of financial information to Directors and the Supervisory Board

Skills and Experience

 

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree with significant training and experience in Product Accounting and/ or Product Control in Banking including Financial Markets
  • Experience in working with key stakeholders across business functions and externally, including auditors and regulators
  • Training and experience in accounting under IFRS
  • Training and experience in accounting under German GAAP  would be a strong advantage
  • Training in IT and /or coding would be a strong advantage  
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours
  • Knowledge of functions, features and capabilities of financial and accounting systems; ability to use financial and accounting applications specific to the organization
  • Knowledge of and ability to use processes, tools, and techniques for exploring and evaluating alternative financial scenarios and results
  • Knowledge of the processes, customs, policies, and rules affecting the way the organization is administered and controlled; ability to ensure compliance with same
