Job Summary

 

Model Risk Policy and Governance (MRPG) team, a part of Model Risk Management - a second line of defence function - owns the Group’s Model Risk Type Framework and associated system which enables the management and oversight of Model Risk the Group is exposed to relative to Board approved risk appetite. MRPG provides the framework, including Policy, Standards and System, governs and monitors risks that can potentially manifest across all stages of the Model Lifecycle from initiation, development, validation, implementation, use and monitoring, and decommission of models used in the Group.

 

It is of utmost importance that, as a second line governance function, MRPG provides an industry leading regulatory compliant framework and associated model risk system, which enables the implementation of the Model Risk Framework across SCB’s global footprint.

 

The role holder is expected to interact with, and influence, a vast range of stakeholders across the Model Risk community, in order to provide a meaningful understandable framework to enable effective model risk management across SCB.

 

The role holder will gain broad exposure across the Group thorough the Model Risk community, including exposure to Senior Management. They will be accountable for all aspects of Model Risk Framework and System including, adherence to multiple key regulatory model risk standards.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support Head of Model Risk Framework to ensure the Model Risk Framework, Policy and Standards are aligned to the Enterprise Risk Management Strategy and support the SCB strategy
  • Act in alignment with the Objectives from Head of Model Risk Framework to implement, maintain and enhance the Group’s Model Risk Management Framework across all model families covered by the framework, including non-models and model families
  • Collaborate with Model Risk Framework and Model Risk Policy & Governance individuals to implement non-model framework implementation across MRM and SCB
  • Partner Head of Model Risk Framework and teams across model risk community to support and develop model risk framework to ensure sound implementation of the SS 1/23 PRA Model Risk Principles
  • Understand the Model Risk Framework regulatory change in relation to new models in scope and non-model framework under SS 1/23 PRA Model Risk Principles
  • Act to adapt the Group’s model risk management framework, policy and standards to changing environment and emerging risks, such as the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the wider risk environment in which SCB Group operates, specifically in relation to key regulators, including PRA, BaFin, HKMA, MAS, regulatory appointed independent consultants, external audit and internal audit
  • Enable model risk management via socialisation, communication and training across the model risk community, key risk stakeholders and senior management of all businesses and countries
  • Engage with relevant Business Representatives, Teams or their delegates to embed the Model Risk Management framework into their respective First-Line or Second-Line activities to ensure compliance to the Group Model Risk Policy, controls and governance arrangements
  • Engage with modelling stakeholders in Credit Risk, Traded Risk, Operational Risk and their subject matter experts in Finance, Treasury, FCC and HR performing model sponsors, model owners and model users responsibilities

Skills and Experience

 

  • 4+ years of experience in Banking \ Financial Services having good exposure to Model Risk Policy and Governance
  • Education: Risk Management, Financial, Business, Legal, or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited university
  • In-depth understanding of Risk & Model Risk management, processes and associated control requirements
  • Membership: Membership of relevant Risk Management Associations will be an asset
  • Proactive, self-directed and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Exercise professional judgment, objectivity and discretion
  • Ability to build relationships, working within a global team
  • Languages: Advanced level of business proficiency in English (Verbal and Written)
