The Model Risk Policy and Governance (MRPG) team, part of Model Risk Management - a second line of defence function - owns the Group’s Model Risk Type Framework and associated system which enables the management and oversight of Model Risk within the Group. MRPG provides the Framework, including Policy, Standards and System, governs and monitors risks that can potentially manifest across all stages of the Model Lifecycle from initiation, development, validation, implementation, use and monitoring, and decommission of models used in the Group.
It is of utmost importance that, as a second line governance function, MRPG provides an industry leading regulatory compliant framework and associated model risk system, which enables the implementation of the Model Risk Framework across SC’s global footprint.
The role holder is expected to interact with, and influence, a wide range of stakeholders across the Model Risk community, in order to provide a meaningful and understandable framework to enable effective model risk management across SC.
The role holder will gain broad exposure across the Group thorough the Model Risk community, including exposure to Senior Management. They will be accountable for all aspects of Model Risk Framework, ensuring adherence to multiple key regulatory model risk standards. A key enabler of this is the provision of best-in-class Model Risk Training and Communication, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of the latest regulatory or policy developments.
The role holder will develop a deep understanding of the Model Risk Framework, Policy and Standards. They will be accountable for developing, maintaining and implementing a comprehensive Training and Communication strategy for Model Risk, covering all aspects of the Model Risk Framework including adherence to multiple regulatory standards, and supporting wider initiatives within MRPG.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Head of Model Risk Infrastructure to ensure the Model Risk Framework, Policy and Standards are aligned to the Enterprise Risk Management Strategy and supports SC strategy.
- Act in alignment with objectives from Head of Model Risk Infrastructure to implement, maintain and enhance the Group’s Model Risk Management Framework across all model families covered by the framework.
- Support Head of Model Risk Infrastructure to ensure Model Risk Training and Communication is aligned to the Model Risk Framework, Policy and Standards, and supports SC strategy.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the Model Risk community to implement best-in-class Model Risk training, in line with strategic and regulatory objectives.
- Understand the Model Risk Framework and associated Regulatory landscape, including SS 1/23 PRA Model Risk Principles.
- Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the wider risk environment in which SC Group operates, specifically in relation to key regulators, including PRA, BaFin, HKMA, MAS, regulatory appointed independent consultants, external audit and internal audit.
- Enable effective model risk management via socialisation, communication and training across the model risk community, key risk stakeholders and senior management of all businesses and countries.
- Engage with relevant Business Representatives, Teams or their delegates to embed the Model Risk Management framework into their respective First-Line or Second-Line activities to ensure compliance to the Group Model Risk Policy, controls and governance arrangements.
- Engage with relevant Model Risk stakeholders to enhance the Model Risk Training, ensuring it is targeted to the relevant audience, and meets business requirements.
- Engage with Model Risk leadership to ensure effective communication across the Risk community, ensuring all stakeholders remain informed of the latest developments in the Model Risk-space.
- Support the training efforts as part of the Risk Type Framework country rollout and manage the end-to-end development and maintenance of foundation and advanced e-learning modules on model risk management and key regulatory model types
- Support the preparation of Group Process Owner Attestation. This involves preparing data, collecting survey results, providing ongoing support to the users, and reporting progress to Senior Management.
- Involvement in Model Identification process, providing assessment for tools used in the institution, including close collaboration with Responsible AI structures.
- Support the preparation of Policy Effectiveness Reviews, including a full evaluation of all Policy processes and controls across MRM
- Support and integrate the model risk framework with related frameworks, including Non-Financial Risk, AI/ML, Data Management
Skills and Experience
- 4+ years of experience in Banking \ Financial Services having good exposure to Model Risk Policy and Governance
- Education: Risk Management, Financial, Business, Legal, or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited university
- In-depth understanding of Risk & Model Risk management, processes and associated control requirements
- Experience in training preparation/management/development will be an asset
- Membership: Membership of relevant Risk Management Associations will be an asset
- Proactive, self-directed and able to work with minimum supervision
- Exercise professional judgment, objectivity and discretion
- Ability to build relationships, working within a global team
- Languages: Advanced level of business proficiency in English (Verbal and Written)
