Job Summary

 

Regional Lead of ESG Analysts will be responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of ESG Assessments for CIB clients of the Bank. This involves working with internal and external stakeholders, principally Relationship Managers, Global Banking team, Credit Analysts, PAM Analysts, ESGR team and Net Zero Delivery team. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping processes, system solutions and leading activity to deliver the annual Book of Work of ESG Assessments viz. Climate Risk Assessment (CRA) & Client Environmental Social Governance & Reputational Risk Assessment (CESGRA).

 

The successful candidate would have a strong understanding of climate risk, environmental & social risk, and reputational risk, be action oriented, and take ownership and accountability for quality and timeliness of deliverables and performance of the team. The successful candidate would have exposure to strategic thinking, continuous improvement and innovation-related initiatives, as well as driving system solutions to facilitate strategic delivery.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide leadership reinforcing commitment to structure and strong business focus.
  • Provide oversight on ESG assessments and continuously strive to be best in class.
  • Address training needs holistically, provide coaching and encourage independent analysis.
  • Monitor and publish metrics to give visibility on TAT / quality, etc., and work on improvement and efficiency initiatives.
  • Work with management and think strategically to design and execute on optimal team structure; develop industry and segment expertise within the ESG Analyst team.
  • Provide senior representation on relevant urgent transactions requiring ESG assessment(s) and represent 1LoD on ESG matters related to audit and regulators.
  • Identify and highlight issues faced by ESG Analysts and be the change agent to drive process improvement, working closely with ESGR, Credit approvers, policy and other stakeholders. Share best practices globally with Team Leads.
  • Participate in projects and coordinate teams leads to ensure effective, disciplined, consistent and holistic approach to managing ESG risk and maximizing business opportunities.
  • Support growing the business and actively participate in the underwriting of new cross border deals and ESG assessments for new and existing clients that are in scope.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers / CA Heads in pursuing their client strategies through proactive idea generation, support in preparing materials for client discussion and ensuring they are always fully briefed on key ESG risk aspects.
  • Partner with Credit Analysts through clear presentation of clients’ ESG assessment as well as proactive and considered discussion of key ESG risk aspects.
  • Support Relationship Managers / Credit Analysts in understanding the clients’ ESG Risk scores, identified gaps and provide guidance to resolve any ESG conditions / Risk Triggers that may need client engagement.
  • Partner with Strategic Advisory & Solutions team by leveraging data and insights of clients’ ESG assessment and working on strategic projects.
  • Acting as a broader point of expertise in respect of ESG risk aspects with Product teams and others across CIB.
  • Cultivate and maintain close relationships with internal partners, including respective Risk units, frontline stakeholders, Legal, Compliance, Product, and Operations. 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ relevant experience gained either in banking, Credit risk or ESG/Sustainability related fields.
  • Prior experience in leading a multi-cultural team in a Global organisation.
  • Direct experience in assessing of ESG risk for CIB clients.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and ESG-related developments and potential impact on Financial Institutions on account of increased focus and regulatory demands with respect to ESG risks.
  • Strong analytical ability, focused on the assessment and calibration of ESG Risk.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with proven ability to work across cultures and within a dynamic environment.
  • Able to hold credible dialogue at all levels of the organisation, as well as with clients.
  • Well organized, able to multitask and balance competing demands.
  • Management and Leadership – ability to prioritise, delegate, develop and motivate people.
  • Analytical strength – to spot emerging risks, in particular forward-looking industry trends.
  • Gravitas and communication – to engage with Relationship Managers, Clients and Management alike have the ability to challenge in a constructive manner.
  • Collaborative – to work in partnership with stakeholders to ‘get things done’, fulfilling the Job Purpose.
  • Problem-solving mindset and the ability to provide well thought through solutions based on data analysis.
  • Awareness of E&S Governance, including industry standards & Climate risk aspects.
  • Awareness of Global E&S trends to examine and detect trends at industry/regional level.
  • Certifications related to Climate and / or ESG will be an advantage.
  • Exposure to designing system solutions to facilitate strategic delivery will be an advantage.
