Job Summary

 

We are in search for a highly motivated and experienced ESG Team Leader to lead and manage a team of ESG Analysts. This position entails the responsibility of overseeing Climate Risk Assessments (CRA) & Client ESG & Reputational Risk Assessment (CESGRA) reporting, analysis, and strategy implementation while ensuring high-quality outputs that align with regulatory requirements. The ESG Team Leader will act as the primary liaison between senior leadership, stakeholders, and the ESG Analyst team, driving collaboration, accountability, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

 

The Team Lead will provide insightful, relevant, succinct, and timely Credit Allied Risk Assessment for a portfolio of SC’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Clients (Existing and New to bank).

 

This includes the responsibility for:

 

  • Managing, mentoring, and developing a team of ESG Analysts, providing guidance, performance feedback, and career development support.
  • Allocate resources, set team priorities, and ensure delivery of high-quality CRA & CESGRA assessments within deadlines.
  • Being familiar with region & sector specific policy changes / updates pertaining to ESG & Climate topics.
  • Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented, and purpose-driven team culture.
  • Lead training programs and upskill the team on Climate & ESGR aspects.
  • Preparing and reviewing client decks, dashboards and support senior members of the team on assigned cases.
  • Dedicate time to train, support less experienced colleagues to instil consistent best practice across the team.
  • Proactively share information across teams to lift collective knowledge.
  • Train and develop adequate backups for all key deliverables, including self and team. Serve as an effective backup for Head of Climate Analysts.
  • Summarising key risks and trends as part of Case MI  /Reporting.
  • Driving the implementation of the Group’s sectoral Position Statements.
  • Support RMs / CAs on complex ESG issues and other client specific issues / managing escalations and monitoring delivery of main team objectives.
  • Ensure fair allocation of additional tasks such as mailbox management, policy tracker update, opportunities to develop current skills and capabilities as required.  
  • Proactively support ESG Analyst Team Head on ad hoc projects, strategic initiatives and exercises aimed at improving or enhancing the team’s activities.
  • Strategic thinking and thought leadership with the ability to steer the team to logically structure and process data into meaningful and actionable recommendations.

 

The Team Leader will support Business Credit Application (BCA) submission through:

 

  • Timely completion of the Credit Allied Risk Assessments for integration with the BCA (where in scope)
  • Active partnership with CIB Coverage team in completion of Risk Profile, as well as proposed Covenants and Risk Triggers related to Credit Allied Risk assessments
  • While RMs and Credit Analysts will maintain overall responsibility for the consistency and coherence of the entire BCA package submitted to Risk, the Credit Allied Risk Team will take on the duty of addressing and responding to any inquiries or questions from Credit Officers concerning the assessments they carry out.

Skills and Experience

 

  • Academic degree in Science, Management, Sustainability, Engineering that is specific to environmental and/or social risk, or specific to Industries (including Metals & Mining, Chemicals, Manufacturing, Agribusiness) or a similar technical/management study.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ relevant experience gained either in banking or other financial institutions in ESG/Climate or Credit risk-related roles.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and disclosure requirements (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD, CDP, PRI, ISSB).
  • Strong analytical and research skills with expertise in ESG risk assessments, climate scenario analysis, and sustainability reporting.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with ESG data and rating platforms (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, Bloomberg ESG, Refinitiv).
  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confident and self-motivated person with a high level of drive and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills with ability to handle large dataset of internal client information and risk assessment results including PowerPoint and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities.
  • Experience in Credit/Climate/ESG risk assessment or management.
  • Analytical skills to conduct comprehensive research on client E&S, Climate and Reputational risk performance.
  • Problem-solving mindset and the ability to provide well thought through solutions based on data analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and engaging disposition to work closely with Credit Analysts across SCB markets to ensure accurate understanding of client operations.
  • Awareness of E&S Governance, including industry specific standards & Climate risk aspects.
  • Global awareness of E&S trends to examine and detect trends at industry/regional level.
  • Certifications related to Climate, ESG will be an added advantage.
