Job Summary
Model Risk Management is responsible for ensuring that all models used in the continental Europe subsidiary of Standard Chartered are fit for purpose. As a Traded Model Risk Associate, you will participate in the validation of the treasury risk models developed in SCB AG, in line with the local standards and regulations. You will support the team in assessing, testing and analysing the treasury risk models. You will also be involved in the identification of shortcomings in the development of the models, performing validation tests and discussing findings with team members, writing validation reports and managing model risk on an ongoing basis.
You will also be involved in the local model reviews of the traded risk models (valuation models, counterparty credit risk and market risk) developed and validated centrally by the Group. You will support the reviewing of the model development and validation documentation by assessing the impact of the identified model limitations and validation findings on the local portfolio, identify potential shortcomings in the development of the model, and grading each model.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the independent validation of new and existing treasury risk models that are used in risk management, ICAAP / capital calculation, stress testing, etc.
- Perform qualitative review of model development process including underlying assumptions and theoretical basis, including assessment of model components against relevant regulatory requirements.
- Perform quantitative assessments of model performance via data evaluation and statistical testing.
- Documentation of validation findings.
- Recommend improvements to the models.
- Assess models according to local regulatory requirements and industry practice.
- Complete the country model fitness attestation of the traded risk models under the supervision of senior team members.
- Assist the Head, Model Risk Management in addressing concerns or questions relating to the models.
Skills and Experience
- 3+ years experience and proven knowledge in the quantitative development or validation of any type of treasury or traded risk models (IRRBB, CSRBB, market risk, or valuation models).
- Degree in mathematics, finance, statistics, physics, econometrics, or related field.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems independently.
- Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts and results in a comprehensible manner to key stakeholders.
- Experience with data bases and programming languages: SAS, R, SQL and / or Python.
- Strong focus on quality control and attention to detail.
- English business proficient.
- Knowledge in the relevant EBA Guidelines or German banking regulation is a plus.
